Light

In the beginning, God made the heavens and the earth. The earth was shapeless and empty. Darkness sat over the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the water. And God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the dark. God called the light “day” and the dark “night”. And there was evening, and there was morning — the first day.

Sky and sea

And God said, “Let there be a space in the middle of the water, to keep the waters apart.” So God made the space, and separated the water below it from the water above it. And that's how it was. God called the space “sky”. And there was evening, and there was morning — the second day. And God said, “Let the water under the sky gather into one place, and let dry ground show itself.” And that's how it was. God called the dry ground “land” and the gathered water “seas”. And God saw that it was good.

6

Green things

And God said, “Let the land put out growing things — plants that seed, and fruit trees carrying fruit with the seed in it, each of its own kind.” And that's how it was. The land put out growing things: plants that seed, each of its own kind, and trees carrying fruit with the seed in it, each of its own kind. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning — the third day.

13

And there was evening, and there was morning — the third day.

Sun, moon, stars

And God said, “Let there be lights up in the sky to separate day from night, and let them mark the seasons and the days and the years, and let them shine down from the sky onto the earth.” And that's how it was. God made the two big lights — the greater one to run the day, the lesser one to run the night — and He made the stars as well. God set them up in the sky to shine on the earth, to run the day and the night, and to keep the light and the dark apart. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning — the fourth day.

18

to run the day and the night, and to keep the light and the dark apart. And God saw that it was good.

19

And there was evening, and there was morning — the fourth day.

Fish and birds

And God said, “Let the water swarm with living things, and let birds fly over the earth, right across the face of the sky.” So God made the great creatures of the sea, and every living thing that moves and swarms in the water, each of its own kind, and every winged bird, each of its own kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them. “Breed up. Fill the water in the seas. And let the birds multiply on the earth.” And there was evening, and there was morning — the fifth day.

20

And God said, “Let the water swarm with living things, and let birds fly over the earth, right across the face of the sky.”

21

So God made the great creatures of the sea, and every living thing that moves and swarms in the water, each of its own kind, and every winged bird, each of its own kind. And God saw that it was good.

22

And God blessed them. “Breed up. Fill the water in the seas. And let the birds multiply on the earth.”

23

And there was evening, and there was morning — the fifth day.

Animals and people

And God said, “Let the land bring out living things, each of its own kind — livestock, things that move along the ground, and wild animals, each of its own kind.” And that's how it was. God made the wild animals, each of its own kind, and the livestock, each of its own kind, and everything that moves along the ground, each of its own kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make people in our own image, in our likeness. And let them look after the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and everything that moves along the ground.” So God made people in His own image. In the image of God He made them. Male and female He made them. And God blessed them, and He said to them, “Have children. Fill the earth, and take care of it. Look after the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and every living thing that moves on the ground.” And God said, “Look — I've given you every seeding plant on the face of the earth, and every tree with seeding fruit on it. That's your food. And to every wild animal and every bird in the sky and everything that moves along the ground — everything with the breath of life in it — I've given every green plant for food.” And that's how it was. And God looked at everything He'd made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning — the sixth day.

24

And God said, “Let the land bring out living things, each of its own kind — livestock, things that move along the ground, and wild animals, each of its own kind.” And that's how it was.

25

God made the wild animals, each of its own kind, and the livestock, each of its own kind, and everything that moves along the ground, each of its own kind. And God saw that it was good.

30
