And you took your embroidered clothes and covered them, and you set my oil and my incense before them. And my food that I gave you — the fine flour and oil and honey I fed you with — you set it before them for a sweet aroma. That's how it was, says the Lord GOD. And you took your sons and your daughters that you'd borne to me and sacrificed them to be eaten. Was your whoring a small thing, That you killed my children and handed them over to be made to go through the fire for them? And in all your disgusting things and your whoring you haven't remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare and kicking about in your own blood. Judgment and covenant
So listen to the word of the LORD, you prostitute. This is what the Lord GOD says: Because your filth was poured out and your nakedness was uncovered in your whoring with those who loved you, and with all the idols of your disgusting things, and by the blood of your children that you gave them — Look, I'll gather everyone who loved you that you took your pleasure with, and everyone you loved along with everyone you hated. I'll gather them against you all round and uncover your nakedness to them, and they'll see all your nakedness. And I'll judge you the way women who break marriage and shed blood are judged, and I'll bring the blood of fury and jealousy on you. And I'll hand you over to them, and they'll pull down your mound and break down your worship shrines. And they'll strip your clothes off you and take your beautiful jewellery, and leave you naked and bare. They'll bring a crowd up against you too, and they'll stone you and cut you to pieces with their swords. And they'll burn your houses with fire and do judgments on you before the eyes of many women. And I'll make you stop your whoring, and you won't pay anyone any more. So I will cause my fury toward you to rest, and my jealousy will depart from you. I will be quiet and will be angry no more. Because you haven't remembered the days of your youth but stirred me up with all these things, look: I'll bring your way back on your own head, says the Lord GOD. And you won't do this wickedness on top of all your disgusting things. Look: everyone who uses sayings will use this saying about you: Like mother, like daughter. You're your mother's daughter, who loathed her husband and her children. And you're the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite. And your older sister is Samaria, who lives to your left with her daughters. And your younger sister, who lives to your right, is Sodom with her daughters. But you haven't walked in their ways or done their disgusting things — as if that was too small a thing. You went more rotten than them in all your ways. As surely as I live, says the Lord GOD, your sister Sodom and her daughters haven't done what you and your daughters have done. Look: this was the wrongdoing of your sister Sodom — pride, fulness of bread and abundance of idleness in her and her daughters. Neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. They were arrogant and committed disgusting thing before me, so I took them away as I saw fit. And Samaria hasn't done half your sins. But you've done more disgusting things than them, and made your sisters look righteous by all the disgusting things you've done. So you carry your own shame too, you who judged your sisters. Because of your sins that you did more disgustingly than them, they're more righteous than you. Yes, be ashamed and carry your shame, because you've made your sisters look righteous. When I bring their captives back — the captives of Sodom and her daughters, and the captives of Samaria and her daughters — then I'll bring back your captives among them, So you carry your own shame and are ashamed of everything you've done, when you're a comfort to them. When your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, go back to what they were at first, and Samaria and her daughters go back to what they were at first, then you and your daughters will go back to what you were at first. Because your sister Sodom wasn't even mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride, Before your own wickedness was uncovered — the way it is now, with the daughters of Syria insulting you, and everyone round her, the daughters of the Philistines, who sneer at you from every side. You've carried your wickedness and your disgusting things, says the LORD. But I'll remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I'll set up an everlasting covenant with you. And I'll set up my covenant with you, and you'll know that I'm the LORD — So you remember and are ashamed and never open your mouth again because of your shame, when I've covered over everything you've done, says the Lord GOD.
