The new tablets
The Lord said to Moses, 'Cut two tables of stone like the first ones. I will write on them the words that were on the first tables you broke.' 'Be ready in the morning. Come up Mount Sinai in the morning and present yourself to me there on the summit.' 'No one is to come up with you, and no one is to be seen anywhere on the mountain. Do not let the flocks or herds feed near the mountain.' He cut two tables of stone like the first ones. And Moses rose early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai, as the Lord commanded him, and took the two tables of stone in his hand. The Lord descended in the cloud, stood with Moses there and proclaimed the name of the Lord. The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, 'The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in goodness and truth,' 'keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving wrongdoing, wrongdoing and sin, and by no means clearing the guilty; visiting the wrongdoing of the fathers on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.' Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth and worshipped. He said, 'If I have now found grace in your eyes, Lord, please go among us. We're a stubborn mob; pardon our wrongdoing and sin, and take us as your inheritance.' The Lord said, 'I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels unlike anything done in all the earth or any nation. All the people among whom you live will see the work of the Lord, for what I will do with you is awesome.' 'Observe what I command you today. I will drive out before you the Amorite, Canaanite, Hittite, Perizzite, Hivite and Jebusite.' 'Be careful not to make a covenant with the people of the land you are entering, or it will become a snare among you.' 'Instead, tear down their altars, smash their images and cut down their pagan worship poles.' 'You must worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.' 'Do not make a covenant with the people of the land. When they go whoring after their gods and sacrifice to them, they may invite you in and you'll eat from their sacrifice.' 'Then you may take their daughters as wives for your sons, and those daughters will go whoring after their gods and lead your sons to do the same.' 'You must make no molten gods for yourselves.' 'Keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month Abib, because you came out of Egypt in the month Abib.' 'Every firstborn male is mine, including the firstborn males of your cattle, whether ox or sheep.' 'Redeem the firstborn of a donkey with a lamb; if you do not redeem it, break its neck. Redeem every firstborn son. And no one is to appear before me empty-handed.' 'Work for six days, but rest on the seventh. Even in ploughing time and harvest, you must rest.' 'Keep the Feast of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year's end.' 'Three times each year all your males must appear before the Lord God, the God of Israel.' I will drive the nations out before you and enlarge your borders. No one will desire your land when you go up to appear before the Lord your God three times each year.' 'Do not offer the blood of my sacrifice with yeast, and do not leave any of the Passover sacrifice until morning.' 'Bring the first of the firstfruits of your land into the house of the Lord your God. Do not boil a young goat in its mother's milk.' The Lord told Moses, 'Write these words, because according to these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.' Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He ate no bread and drank no water. And he wrote on the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

And the Lord went past in front of him and called out: The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, slow to anger and full of goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving wrongdoing and stepping over the line and sin, and who won't clear the guilty at all, dealing with the wrongdoing of the fathers on the children and on the children's children, to the third and to the fourth generation. And Moses hurried and bowed his head to the earth and bowed down. And he said: If I've found favour in your sight now, Lord, let my Lord go among us, please. Because it's a stiff-necked people. And forgive our wrongdoing and our sin, and take us for your inheritance. And he said: Look — I make a covenant. In front of all your people I'll do wonders, that haven't been done in all the earth or in any nation. And all the people you're among will see the work of the Lord, because it's a terrifying thing I'll do with you. Keep what I order you today. Look — I'll drive out in front of you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. Watch yourself, in case you make a covenant with the people of the land you're going to, or it'll be a trap in the middle of you. But you'll pull down their altars, break their pillars and cut down their sacred poles. Because you won't bow down to any other god. Because the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. In case you make a covenant with the people of the land, and they go whoring after their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and one calls you and you eat of his sacrifice. And you take of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters go whoring after their gods and make your sons go whoring after their gods. You won't make yourself any cast gods. You'll keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Seven days you'll eat unleavened bread, the way I ordered you, in the time of the month Abib. Because in the month Abib you came out of Egypt. Everything that opens the womb is mine, and every firstborn among your cattle, whether ox or sheep. But the firstborn of a donkey you'll redeem with a lamb. And if you won't redeem it, then you'll break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you'll redeem. And nobody will show himself in front of me empty-handed. Six days you'll work, but on the seventh day you'll rest. In ploughing time and in harvest you'll rest. And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O LORD, let my LORD, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance. And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee. Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. Moses' face shines
When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in his hand, he didn't know that the skin of his face shone because he had been speaking with God. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was shining, and they were afraid to come near him. Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers of the community returned to him. Moses spoke with them. Afterward all the Israelites came near, and Moses gave them in commandment everything the Lord had spoken to him on Mount Sinai. When Moses finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face. But whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. Then he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded. The Israelites saw that the skin of Moses' face shone. Then Moses put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the Lord again.
