Now these are the judgments you'll set before them. If you buy a Hebrew servant, he'll serve six years. And in the seventh he'll go out free for nothing. 'If he came in alone, he may go out alone. If he was married, his wife may go out with him.' 'If his master gave him a wife and she bore him sons or daughters, the wife and her children belong to the master, and the servant goes out alone.' If the servant plainly says: I love my master, my wife and my children. I won't go out free — Then his master will bring him to the judges. 'If a man sells his daughter as a female servant, she must not go free in the same way as the male servants.' If she doesn't please her master, who's promised her to himself, then he'll let her be redeemed. He won't have the power to sell her to a foreign nation, seeing he's dealt falsely with her. If he has promised her in marriage to his son, he must treat her according to the rights of daughters.' If he takes himself another wife, he won't take away her food, her clothing and her rights as a wife. If he doesn't do these three things for her, then she'll go out free, with no money.

Violence and its payment
Whoever strikes a man so he dies will surely be put to death. If a man doesn't lie in wait, but God hands him over into his hand, then I'll set you a place where he can run to. But if a man comes proudly on his neighbour to kill him with cunning, you'll take him from my altar so he can die. And whoever strikes his father or his mother will surely be put to death. And whoever steals a man and sells him, or if he's found in his hand, will surely be put to death. And whoever curses his father or his mother will surely be put to death. If men fight and one strikes another with a stone or with his fist, and he doesn't die but has to keep to his bed — If he gets up again and walks about outside on his staff, then the one who struck him will be clear. Only he'll pay for the loss of his time and have him fully healed. If a man strikes his servant or his servant woman with a staff and they die under his hand, he'll be punished for sure. But if they go on a day or two, he won't be punished. Because they're his property. 'If men fight and injure a pregnant woman so that her child is born, but no further harm follows, the offender must be fined whatever the woman's husband demands and the judges allow.' If any harm follows, then you'll give life for life, Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Burning for burning, wound for wound, blow for blow. The goring ox
If an ox gores a man or a woman so they die, then the ox will be stoned for sure, and its flesh won't be eaten. But the owner of the ox will be clear. But if the ox has been in the habit of goring in time past, and its owner has been warned and didn't keep it in, so it's killed a man or a woman — the ox will be stoned, and its owner will be put to death too. If a payment is laid on him, then he'll give whatever is laid on him as the ransom for his life. Whether it's gored a son or gored a daughter, it'll be done to him according to this judgment. If the ox gores a servant or a servant woman, he'll give thirty shekels of silver to their master, and the ox will be stoned. If a man opens a pit, or if a man digs a pit and doesn't cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls into it — The owner of the pit will make it good and give money to their owner, and the dead animal will be his.
