The firstborn set apart
The Lord spoke to Moses: Set apart to me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the Israelites, both of man and of animal. It's mine. The Israelites went up out of Egypt harnessed for battle. Moses took the bones of Joseph with him. Because he'd made the Israelites swear a solemn oath: God will definitely come to you, and you'll carry my bones up from here with you. They set out from Sukkoth and camped in Etham, on the edge of the wilderness. The Lord went ahead of them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so they could travel day or night. The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night never left its place before the people.
