The locusts
The Lord said to Moses, 'Go in to Pharaoh. I've hardened his heart and the hearts of his servants so I can show these signs of mine among them.' 'Then you can tell your children and grandchildren what I did to Egypt, and the signs I worked among them, so you may know that I am the Lord.' Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, 'This is what the Lord God of the Hebrews says: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so they can serve me.' 'If you refuse to let my people go, tomorrow I'll bring locusts into your territory.' 'They will cover the face of the earth so completely the ground cannot be seen. They will eat whatever escaped the hail, including every tree growing in your fields.' They'll fill your houses and the houses of all your servants and the houses of all the Egyptians — which your fathers and your fathers' fathers haven't seen since the day they were on the earth to this day. And he turned and left Pharaoh. Pharaoh's servants said to him, 'How long is this man going to be a snare to us? Let the men go serve the Lord their God. Haven't you noticed Egypt is ruined?' So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. He said, 'Go serve the Lord your God. But exactly who is going?' Moses answered, 'We're all going — young and old, sons and daughters, flocks and herds. We're holding a feast to the Lord.' Pharaoh said, 'The Lord had better be with you if I ever let you go with your little ones! I can see what you're up to.' 'No chance. Let the men go and serve the Lord, since that's what you've been asking for.' Then they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence. The Lord said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over Egypt for the locusts, so they may come over the land and eat every plant the hail left behind.' Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind on the land all that day and all that night. And when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. The locusts went up over all the land of Egypt and rested in all the borders of Egypt. They were very bad. There'd been no locusts like them before, and there won't be any like them after. Because they covered the surface of the whole land, so the land was darkened. And they ate every plant of the land and all the fruit of the trees the hail had left. And there wasn't any green thing left in the trees or in the plants of the field through all the land of Egypt. Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron and said, 'I've sinned against the Lord your God and against you.' 'Please forgive my sin just this once, and pray to the Lord your God to take this death away from me.' He left Pharaoh and pleaded with the Lord. The Lord turned a very strong west wind, and it took the locusts away and threw them into the Red Sea. There wasn't one locust left in all the borders of Egypt. But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, so he wouldn't let the Israelites go.

And Moses said: We'll go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds we'll go. Because we have to hold a feast to the Lord. Go now, you men, and serve the Lord, because that's what you wanted. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence. And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go? And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD. And he said unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you. Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence. Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only. And he went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD. And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt. But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.

Moses stretched out his hand towards the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. They didn't see each other, and nobody rose from his place for three days. But all the Israelites had light where they lived. Pharaoh called Moses and said, 'Go serve the Lord. Your little ones can go with you too. Just leave your flocks and herds behind.' Moses said, 'You'll also have to give us sacrifices and burnt offerings to offer to the Lord our God.' 'Our livestock are coming with us. Not a hoof stays behind, because we need them to serve the Lord our God. We won't know what we must use to serve the Lord until we get there.' But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he wouldn't let them go. Pharaoh told him, 'Get out of here. And watch yourself — don't come before me again. The day you see my face again, you'll die.' Moses replied, 'Fair enough. You have spoken well. I will never see your face again.'
