Nobody has power over the day of death
Who is like the wise man? Who knows how to explain a thing? A man's wisdom lights up his face and softens the hardness of it. I say, keep the king's command, and that because of the oath of God. Don't be in a hurry to leave his presence, and don't stand up for a bad cause, because he does whatever he likes. Where the word of a king is, there is power. Who is going to say to him, What are you doing? Whoever keeps the command will feel no evil thing, and a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgement. Because for every purpose there is a time and a judgement, and so a man's misery weighs heavily on him. Because he doesn't know what is coming. Who can tell him when it will be? No man has power over the spirit to hold back the spirit, and no man has power in the day of death. There is no discharge in that war, and wickedness won't deliver those given to it. All this I saw when I turned my mind to everything done under the sun, at a time when one man ruled over another to his own hurt. And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the holy place, and they were forgotten in the city where they had done so. This too is empty. Because the sentence against a bad deed isn't carried out quickly, the hearts of men are set on doing wrong. Though a sinner does wrong a hundred times and still lives long, I know it will go well for those who fear God, who stand in awe before him. But it won't go well for the wicked man, and he won't lengthen his days, which are like a shadow, because he doesn't stand in awe of God. There is something senseless that happens on the earth: righteous men get what the wicked deserve, and wicked men get what the righteous deserve. I said this too is empty. So I commended enjoyment, because a man has nothing better under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. That will stay with him in his work through the days of his life that God gives him under the sun. When I set my mind to know wisdom and to see the business that goes on upon the earth — with a man getting no sleep day or night — Then I saw all the work of God, and that a man can't find out the work done under the sun. However hard a man labours to search it out, he won't find it; and even if a wise man thinks he knows it, he still won't be able to find it out.
Who's like the wise man? And who knows the meaning of a thing? A man's wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his face is changed. I say to you: Keep the king's order, and that because of the oath of God. Don't hurry to go out of his sight. Don't stand in a bad thing, because he does whatever he wants. Where the word of a king is, there's power. And who'll say to him: What are you doing? Whoever keeps the order won't know any evil thing. And a wise man's heart knows both time and judgment. Because there's time and judgment for every purpose. So the trouble of man is great on him. Because he doesn't know what'll be. Because who can tell him when it'll be? There's no man who's got power over the spirit to keep the spirit, and nobody has power in the day of death. And there's no discharge in that war. And wickedness won't rescue the ones given to it. I've seen all this and set my heart on every work done under the sun — there's a time when one man rules over another to his own hurt. And so I saw the wicked buried, who'd come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the town where they'd done that. This is empty too. Because sentence against an evil work isn't carried out quickly, so the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though a sinner does evil a hundred times and his days are made long, still I know for sure it'll be well with the ones who fear God, who fear in front of him. But it won't be well with the wicked, and he won't make his days long, which are like a shadow — because he doesn't fear in front of God. There's an emptiness done on the earth: there are righteous men that it happens to according to the work of the wicked. And there are wicked men that it happens to according to the work of the righteous. I said that this is empty too. So I praised celebrating, because a man has nothing better under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Because that'll stay with him in his work all the days of his life that God gives him under the sun. When I set my heart to know wisdom and to see the business done on the earth — because there's one who doesn't see sleep with his eyes day or night — then I looked at all the work of God, that a man can't find out the work done under the sun. Because however hard a man works to look for it, he won't find it. Yes, more than that, though a wise man thinks he knows it, he won't be able to find it.
Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed. I counsel thee to keep the king’s commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God. Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him. Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou? Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man’s heart discerneth both time and judgment. Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him. For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be? There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it. All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt. And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity. Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God. There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity. Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun. When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:) Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
