The covenant at Horeb
Moses called all Israel together and said, "Listen, Israel, to the rules and judgments I speak in your hearing today. Learn them and be careful to do them. The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Horeb. The Lord didn't made this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those here today, all of us alive. The Lord spoke with you face to face on the mountain, out of the fire. I stood between the Lord and you at that time to show you the word of the Lord, because you were afraid of the fire and did not go up the mountain. He said:
And Moses called all Israel and said to them: Listen, Israel, to the rules and the judgments I'm speaking in your ears today, so you learn them and keep them and do them. The Lord our God cut a covenant with us at Horeb. The Lord didn't cut this covenant with our fathers, but with us, the ones here today, all of us alive. The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. The ten words
"I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You'll have no other gods before me. You won't make yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything in heaven above, on earth beneath, or in the waters under the earth. You won't bow down to them or serve them, because I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the wrongdoing of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments. You won't take the name of the Lord your God in vain, because the Lord won't hold guiltless anyone who takes his name in vain. Keep the sabbath day and make it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. Six days you'll labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you won't do any work — you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, your ox, your donkey, any of your cattle, or the foreigner living in your towns — so your servants may rest as well as you. Remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. So the Lord your God commanded you to keep the sabbath day. Honour your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, so your days may be long and things may go well with you in the land the Lord your God gives you. You won't kill. You won't commit adultery. You won't steal. You won't bear false witness against your neighbour. You won't desire your neighbour's wife. You won't desire your neighbour's house, field, male servant, female servant, ox, donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour. The Lord spoke these words to your whole gathering on the mountain out of the middle of the fire, the cloud and the thick darkness, with a great voice. And he didn't add any more. And he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.
I'm the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slaves. You won't have any other gods in front of me. You won't make yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. You won't bow down to them or serve them. Because I the Lord your God am a jealous God, dealing with the wrongdoing of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of the ones who hate me, and showing faithful love to thousands of the ones who love me and keep my orders. You won't take the name of the Lord your God for nothing. Because the Lord won't hold him guiltless who takes his name for nothing. Keep the sabbath day and treat it as holy, the way the Lord your God ordered you. Six days you'll work and do everything you have to do. But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord your God. You won't do any work on it — you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your cattle, or the stranger inside your gates — so your male servant and your female servant can rest the same as you. And remember you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out of there with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. That's why the Lord your God ordered you to keep the sabbath day. Honour your father and your mother, the way the Lord your God ordered you — so your days are long and it goes well for you in the land the Lord your God is giving you. You won't kill. And you won't break your marriage. And you won't steal. And you won't give false witness against your neighbour. And you won't want your neighbour's wife. And you won't set your heart on your neighbour's house, his field or his male servant or his female servant, his ox or his donkey, or anything that's your neighbour's. The Lord spoke these words to your whole gathering on the mountain out of the middle of the fire, the cloud and the thick darkness, with a great voice. And he didn't add any more. And he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. Thou shalt have none other gods before me. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee. Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou. And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day. Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Neither shalt thou commit adultery. Neither shalt thou steal. Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour. Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s. You speak to us
When you heard the voice out of the middle of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders. You said, "Look, the Lord our God has shown us his glory and greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the fire. Today we have seen that God can speak with man and the man can still live. So why should we die? This great fire will consume us. If we keep hearing the voice of the Lord our God, we will die. Because who is there of all flesh who's heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the middle of the fire, as we have, and lived? You go near and hear everything the Lord our God says. Then tell us everything the Lord our God tells you, and we will hear it and do it." The Lord heard the sound of your words when you spoke to me. And the Lord said to me: I've heard the sound of the words of this people that they've spoken to you. Everything they've said is good. Oh, that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always, so it might be well with them and their children forever! Go and tell them: Get back into your tents. But you stand here by me, and I'll tell you all the commandments and the rules and judgments you'll teach them, so they do them in the land I'm giving them to possess. So be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you. Do not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. Walk in all the ways the Lord your God has commanded you, so you may live, things may go well with you, and you may prolong your days in the land you will possess.
And when you heard the voice out of the middle of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders. And you said: Look — the Lord our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we've heard his voice out of the middle of the fire. Today we've seen that God speaks with a man and he lives. So why should we die now? Because this great fire will eat us up. If we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, we'll die. Because who is there of all flesh who's heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the middle of the fire, the way we have, and lived? You go near and hear everything the Lord our God says. So watch yourselves and do what the Lord your God has ordered you. Don't turn aside to the right or the left. Walk in the whole way the Lord your God has ordered you, so you live and it goes well for you, and so you make your days long in the land you'll own.
And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders; And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth. Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die. For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it. And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken. O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! Go say to them, Get you into your tents again. But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it. Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

So why should we die now? Because this great fire will eat us up. If we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, we'll die.
Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.
Because who is there of all flesh who's heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the middle of the fire, as we have, and lived?
Because who is there of all flesh who's heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the middle of the fire, the way we have, and lived?

You go near and hear everything the Lord our God says. Then tell us everything the Lord our God tells you, and we will hear it and do it."
You go near and hear everything the Lord our God says. And you speak to us everything the Lord our God speaks to you, and we'll hear it and do it.
Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.
The Lord heard the sound of your words when you spoke to me. And the Lord said to me: I've heard the sound of the words of this people that they've spoken to you. Everything they've said is good.
And the Lord heard the sound of your words when you spoke to me. And the Lord said to me: I've heard the sound of the words of this people that they've spoken to you. Everything they've said is good.
And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.
Oh, that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always, so it might be well with them and their children forever!
If only there were a heart in them like this, to fear me and keep all my orders always, so it'd go well for them and for their children forever.
O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!
Go and tell them: Get back into your tents.
Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.
But you stand here by me, and I'll tell you all the commandments and the rules and judgments you'll teach them, so they do them in the land I'm giving them to possess.
But you stand here by me, and I'll tell you all the orders and the rules and the judgments you'll teach them, so they do them in the land I'm giving them to own.
But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
So be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you. Do not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
So watch yourselves and do what the Lord your God has ordered you. Don't turn aside to the right or the left.
Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
Walk in all the ways the Lord your God has commanded you, so you may live, things may go well with you, and you may prolong your days in the land you will possess.
Walk in the whole way the Lord your God has ordered you, so you live and it goes well for you, and so you make your days long in the land you'll own.
Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
