The blessing of the tribes
This is the blessing with which Moses, the man of God, blessed the Israelites before his death. He said: 'The Lord came from Sinai and rose up from Seir to them. He shone out from mount Paran and came with ten thousands of saints; from his right hand went a fiery law for them. Yes, he loved the people. All his saints are in your hand; they sat down at your feet, and every one will receive of your words. Moses commanded us a law, the inheritance of the community of Jacob. He was king in Jeshurun when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together. Let Reuben live and not die, and let his men not be few. And this is the blessing of Judah: Hear, Lord, the voice of Judah and bring him to his people. Let his hands be sufficient for him, and be a help to him from his enemies. Of Levi he said: Let your Thummim and your Urim be with your holy one, whom you proved at Massah and with whom you strove at the waters of Meribah, who said of his father and mother, 'I have not seen him,' neither acknowledged his brothers nor knew his own children, because they observed your word and kept your covenant. They'll teach Jacob your judgments and Israel your law. They'll put incense before you and whole burnt sacrifice upon your altar. Bless his strength, LORD, and accept the work of his hands. Strike down those who rise against him and those who hate him, so they cannot rise again. Of Benjamin he said: The beloved of the Lord will live safely by him. His glory is like the firstborn of his young bull, and his horns are like the horns of wild oxen. With them he'll push the peoples together to the ends of the earth. They are the ten thousands of Ephraim and the thousands of Manasseh. Of Zebulun he said: Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out; and Issachar, in your tents. They'll call the people to the mountain. He came with the heads of the people; he executed the justice of the Lord and his judgments with Israel. Of Dan he said: Dan is a lion's whelp; he'll leap from Bashan. Of Naphtali he said: O Naphtali, satisfied with favour and full with the blessing of the Lord, possess the west and the south. Of Asher he said: Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brothers, and let him dip his foot in oil. Your shoes will be iron and bronze; and as your days, so will your strength be.
