The hard case
Do not sacrifice to the Lord your God any ox or sheep that has a blemish or any serious defect, because that is disgusting to the Lord your God. If there is found among you, within any of your gates that the Lord your God gives you, a man or woman who has done wickedness in the LORD's eyes your God by transgressing his covenant, and has gone and served other gods and worshipped them — the sun, moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded — and it is told to you and you hear of it, then enquire diligently. If it is true and certain that this disgusting thing has been done in Israel, bring that man or woman who has done this wicked thing out to your gates and stone them with stones until they die. On the word of two witnesses or three witnesses the one who's to die will be put to death. He won't be put to death on the word of one witness. The hands of the witnesses will be first upon the person to put them to death, and afterwards the hands of all the people. So you'll put the evil away from among you. If a matter is too hard for you in judgment — between blood and blood, plea and plea, stroke and stroke, matters of controversy in your towns — then arise and go to the place the Lord your God chooses. You'll come to the priests, the Levites, and to the judge in those days, and ask. And they'll tell you the word of the judgment. You'll do according to the word they tell you from that place the Lord chooses. And you'll be careful to do everything they teach you. You'll do according to the word of the law they teach you and according to the judgment they tell you. Don't turn aside from the word they tell you, to the right or the left. The man who acts presumptuously and won't listen to the priest who stands there to minister before the Lord your God, or to the judge, will die. So you'll put the evil away from Israel. All the people will hear and fear, and will act presumptuously no more.

The king

Neither will he multiply wives to himself, so his heart does not turn away; neither will he greatly multiply silver and gold to himself. When he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he'll write himself a copy of this law in a book from the copy before the priests, the Levites. It'll be with him, and he'll read it all the days of his life — so he learns to fear the Lord his God, to keep all the words of this law and these rules, to do them, This is so his heart is not lifted above his brothers and he does not turn aside from the commandment to the right or left, so he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children, among the people of Israel.
