You've stayed long enough at this mountain
These are the words Moses spoke to all Israel beyond Jordan, in the wilderness, in the plain opposite the Red Sea, between Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab. It's an eleven-day journey from Horeb by way of mount Seir to Kadeshbarnea. In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses told the Israelites everything the Lord had commanded him about them. At that time I told you, "I can't carry the load of all of you by myself. The Lord your God has made you many, and look — today you're as many as the stars of the sky. Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it. And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.

Go up and possess it, as the Lord God of your fathers told you. Don't be afraid and don't lose your nerve." And every one of you came to me and said: Let's send men ahead of us to search the land out for us and bring us back word about the way we should go up and the cities we'll come to. It seemed good to me, so I took twelve men from you, one man for each tribe. They turned and went up into the hill country and came to the Valley of Eshkol and searched it out. They took some of the fruit of the land in their hands and brought it down to us, and brought us back word: It's a good land the Lord our God is giving us. But you would not go up. You rebelled against the command of the Lord your God. You grumbled in your tents: "The Lord hates us. That's why he brought us out of Egypt — to hand us over to the Amorites and wipe us out. Where can we go? Our brothers have made our hearts sink. They say the people are bigger and taller than us, the cities are huge and fortified right up to the sky, and we've even seen the descendants of Anak there. Then I said to you, "Don't be terrified of them. Don't be afraid. The Lord your God, who goes ahead of you, will fight for you, just as you saw him do for you in Egypt. And in the wilderness you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way until you came to this place." Behold, the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged. And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come. And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe: And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out. The Lord heard your words and was angry. He swore: Not one of these men of this wicked generation will see the good land I swore to give your fathers — Except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He'll see it, and I'll give him the land he walked on, and his children, because he's followed the Lord wholeheartedly. The Lord was angry with me because of you too, and he said: You won't go in there either. Joshua son of Nun, who stands before you, he'll go in there. Make him strong, because he'll make Israel inherit it. And your little ones, that you said would be plunder, and your children who don't know good from bad today — they'll go in there. And I'll give it to them, and they'll possess it. But as for you, turn round and get going into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea. Then you answered me: We've sinned against the Lord. We'll go up and fight, as the Lord our God commanded us. And every man of you strapped on his weapons of war and presumed to go up into the hill country. The Lord said to me: Tell them, Don't go up and don't fight, because I'm not among you — or you'll be beaten before your enemies. So I told you, but you would not listen. You rebelled against the Lord's command and marched arrogantly up into the hill country. And the Amorites living in that hill country came out against you and chased you like bees, and beat you down in Seir as far as Hormah. Then you came back and wept before the Lord, but the Lord would not listen to your voice or listen to you. So you stayed at Kadesh many days, all the days you stayed there.

And the Amorites living in that hill country came out against you and chased you the way bees do, and beat you down in Seir right to Hormah. And you came back and wept in front of the Lord, and the Lord wouldn't listen to your voice or turn his ear to you. So you stayed at Kadesh plenty of days, all the days you stayed there.
And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying, Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers, Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD. Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither. But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it. Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it. But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea. Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill. And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies. So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill. And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.
