At ease in Zion
Trouble is coming to you who are at ease in Zion, and to you who feel secure on the mountain of Samaria — you notable men of the leading nation, the ones the people of Israel come to. Go over to Calneh and have a look. From there go to Hamath the great, then down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Is their territory larger than yours? You put off the evil day and bring the reign of violence closer. You lie on beds inlaid with ivory and lounge about on your couches. You eat lambs out of the flock and calves straight out of the stall. You chant to the sound of the viol and invent instruments of music for yourselves, like David. You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest oils — and you are not the least bit cut up about the ruin of Joseph. So you will be the first to go into exile, and the lounging and sprawling will be over.
Trouble is coming to you who are at ease in Zion and feel safe on the mountain of Samaria — the pick of the first of the nations, that the house of Israel came to. Go over to Kalneh and have a look, and from there go to great Hamath. Then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Is their border bigger than your border? You who put the bad day a long way off and bring the seat of violence close — who lie on beds of ivory and stretch out on their couches, who eat the lambs out of the flock and the calves out of the middle of the stall, who chant to the sound of the harp and make up instruments for themselves like David, who drink wine by the bowlful and anoint themselves with the best oils — and they aren't sick over the ruin of Joseph. So they'll be the first to go into exile, and the party of the ones stretched out will be over.
Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came! Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border? Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David; That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

The Lord loathes the pride of Jacob
The Lord God has sworn by himself, says the Lord God Almighty: I loathe the pride of Jacob and hate his palaces. I will hand over the city and everything in it. And if ten men are left in one house, they will die. A man's uncle, the one who burns him, will take him up to bring the bones out of the house. He will say to the one by the side of the house, Is there anyone still with you? And he will say, No. Then he will say, Keep quiet. We must not mention the name of the Lord. For look, the Lord gives the command, and the great house will be smashed to bits and the small house to pieces. Do horses gallop over rock? Does a man plough there with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness. you who celebrate over nothing and say, Haven't we taken horns for ourselves by our own strength? But look, I will raise up a nation against you, people of Israel, says the Lord God Almighty, and they will oppress you from the entrance of Hemath to the river of the wilderness.
The Lord God has sworn by himself, says the Lord, the God Almighty: I loathe the pride of Jacob and I hate his palaces. So I'll hand over the town and everything in it. And if ten men are left in one house, they'll die. And a man's relative will pick him up, the one who burns him, to carry the bones out of the house. And he'll say to the one in the far corner of the house: Is there anyone else with you? And he'll say: No. Then he'll say: Be quiet. We mustn't mention the name of the Lord. Because look — the Lord gives the order, and he'll strike the big house into bits and the little house into pieces. Do horses run on rock? Does anyone plough there with oxen? But you've turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness — you who celebrate over nothing and say: Haven't we taken horns for ourselves by our own strength? But look — I'll raise up a nation against you, house of Israel, says the Lord, the God Almighty. And they'll press you from the entrance of Hamath to the stream of the Arabah.
The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein. And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die. And a man’s uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD. For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts. Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock: Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength? But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.
