Thanksgiving and the judgment
Paul, Silvanus and Timotheus, to the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We owe God thanks for you always, brothers, and rightly so — because your faith keeps growing stronger, and the love every one of you has for the others keeps increasing. So we ourselves boast about you among the churches of God for your patience and faith through all the persecutions and troubles you endure. That is a plain sign of the righteous judgement of God — that you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, which is what you are suffering for. It is a righteous thing with God to pay back trouble to those who trouble you, and to give you who are troubled rest along with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, taking vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. They will be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power, on that day when he comes to be glorified in his saints and marvelled at by all who believe, because our testimony among you was believed. That is why we are always praying for you: that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and bring to completion every good purpose of his goodness and every work of faith, with power. So the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in him, by the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
