The Lord is my rock
David spoke the words of this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from all his enemies and from Saul. He said: The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my rescuer. My God is my rock; I take refuge in him. He is my shield and the power of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my saviour who saves me from violence. I call on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. The waves of death surrounded me; torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. The cords of the grave surrounded me; the snares of death closed around me. In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry reached his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven quaked, shaken by his anger. Smoke rose from his nostrils, and consuming fire came from his mouth; burning coals blazed from it. He bent the heavens and came down, with thick darkness beneath his feet. He mounted a cherub and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. He made darkness his covering, gathering around him dark waters and thick clouds. From the brightness before him, burning coals flared. The Lord thundered from heaven; the Most High gave forth his voice. He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy; he hurled lightning and threw them into confusion. The channels of the sea appeared, and the foundations of the world were laid bare at the Lord's rebuke, at the blast of breath from his nostrils. He reached down from above and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a wide-open place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
And David spoke the words of this song to the Lord on the day the Lord had rescued him out of the hand of everyone against him, and out of the hand of Saul. And he said: The Lord is my rock and my stronghold and the one who rescues me. The God of my rock — I'll trust in him. He's my shield and the horn of my salvation, my high tower and my refuge, my saviour. You save me from violence. I'll call on the Lord, who's worthy to be praised. So I'll be saved from the ones against me. When the waves of death surrounded me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows of the grave surrounded me. The traps of death caught me. In my trouble I called on the Lord and cried out to my God. And he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled. The foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was angry. Smoke went up out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth ate up. Coals were lit by it. He bent the heavens too and came down. And darkness was under his feet. And he rode on a cherub and flew. And he was seen on the wings of the wind. And he made darkness tents round him — dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. Through the brightness in front of him coals of fire were lit. The Lord thundered from heaven, and the Most High let out his voice. And he sent out arrows and scattered them, lightning and troubled them. And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were uncovered, at the telling-off of the Lord, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils. He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of plenty of waters. He rescued me from the strong one against me and from the ones who hated me. Because they were too strong for me. They came on me in the day of my trouble. But the Lord was my stay. He brought me out into a wide place too. He rescued me, because he took delight in me.
And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul: And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid; The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me; In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth. There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet. And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind. And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies. Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled. The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice. And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them. And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils. He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters; He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me. They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay. He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
I call on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
I'll call on the Lord, who's worthy to be praised. So I'll be saved from the ones against me.

He bent the heavens and came down, with thick darkness beneath his feet.

He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;
He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.
He rescued me from the strong one against me and from the ones who hated me. Because they were too strong for me.
He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support.
They came on me in the day of my trouble. But the Lord was my stay.
They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.
He brought me out into a wide-open place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
He brought me out into a wide place too. He rescued me, because he took delight in me.
He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.
He trains my hands for war
The Lord dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me. For I have kept the ways of the Lord and have not turned wickedly away from my God. All his judgments were before me, and I did not turn aside from his rules. I was blameless before him and kept myself from guilt. The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in his eyes. To the merciful you show yourself merciful; to the blameless you show yourself blameless. To the pure you show yourself pure, but with the crooked you show yourself shrewd. You save the humble, but your eyes are on the proud to bring them low. You are my lamp, Lord; the Lord lights up my darkness. With you I can charge an army; with my God I can leap over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect. The word of the Lord is proven true. He is a shield to all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the Lord? And who is a rock except our God? God is my strong fortress; he makes my way secure. He makes my feet like a deer's feet and sets me securely on the heights. He trains my hands for battle, so my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your help has made me great. You make a broad path for my feet, so my ankles do not give way. I pursued my enemies and destroyed them; I did not turn back until they were finished. I crushed them so they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet. You armed me with strength for battle; you brought my opponents down beneath me. You made my enemies turn their backs, and I destroyed those who hated me. They cried for help, but there was no one to save them. They cried to the Lord, but he did not answer. I beat them fine as the dust of the earth; I crushed and trampled them like mud in the streets. You rescued me from the disputes of my own people and kept me as head of the nations. People I did not know now serve me. Foreigners submit to me; as soon as they hear of me, they obey. Foreigners lose heart and come trembling from their strongholds. The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Exalted be God, the Rock of my salvation! He is the God who avenges me and brings peoples under me. He frees me from my enemies. You lift me above those who rise against me; you rescue me from violent men. So I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing praises to your name. He gives great victory to his king and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
The Lord paid me back according to my righteousness. He paid me back according to the cleanness of my hands. Because I've kept the ways of the Lord and haven't wickedly gone from my God. Because all his judgments were in front of me. And as for his rules, I didn't turn from them. I was whole in front of him too, and kept myself from my wrongdoing. So the Lord has paid me back according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in his eyesight. With the merciful you'll show yourself merciful. With the whole man you'll show yourself whole. With the pure you'll show yourself pure. And with the twisted you'll show yourself as one who wrestles. And you'll save the people in trouble. But your eyes are on the proud, so you can bring them down. Because you're my lamp, Lord. And the Lord will light up my darkness. Because by you I've run through a troop. By my God I've leapt over a wall. As for God, his way is whole. The word of the Lord is tested. He's a shield to everyone who trusts in him. Because who's God except the Lord? And who's a rock except our God? God is my strength and power. And he makes my way whole. He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on my high places. He teaches my hands to war, so a bow of bronze is broken by my arms. You've given me the shield of your salvation too. And your gentleness has made me great. You've made room for my steps under me, so my feet didn't slip. I've chased the ones against me and wrecked them, and didn't turn back till I'd finished them. And I've eaten them up and wounded them, so they couldn't get up. Yes, they've fallen under my feet. Because you've strapped me with strength for the battle. You've brought down under me the ones who got up against me. You've given me the necks of the ones against me too, so I could wreck the ones who hate me. They looked, but there was nobody to save — to the Lord, but he didn't answer them. Then I beat them as small as the dust of the earth. I stamped them as the mire of the street and spread them out. You've rescued me too from the arguing of my people. You've kept me to be head of the nations. A people I didn't know will serve me. Strangers will give in to me. As soon as they hear, they'll listen to me. Strangers will fade away and come shaking out of their strongholds. The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock. And let the God of the rock of my salvation be lifted up. It's God who pays back for me, and who brings the people down under me. And who brings me out from the ones against me. You've lifted me up too above the ones who got up against me. You've rescued me from the violent man. So I'll give thanks to you, Lord, among the nations, and I'll sing praises to your name. He's the tower of salvation for his king, and shows mercy to his anointed, to David and to his offspring forever.
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them. I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity. Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight. With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright. With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury. And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down. For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness. For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God? God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places. He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms. Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great. Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip. I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them. And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet. For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me. Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me. They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not. Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad. Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me. Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me. Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places. The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation. It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me, And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man. Because you're my lamp, Lord. And the Lord will light up my darkness.

God is my strong fortress; he makes my way secure.
God is my strength and power. And he makes my way whole.

They cried for help, but there was no one to save them. They cried to the Lord, but he did not answer.
They looked, but there was nobody to save — to the Lord, but he didn't answer them.
They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.
I beat them fine as the dust of the earth; I crushed and trampled them like mud in the streets.
Then I beat them as small as the dust of the earth. I stamped them as the mire of the street and spread them out.
Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.
You rescued me from the disputes of my own people and kept me as head of the nations. People I did not know now serve me.
You've rescued me too from the arguing of my people. You've kept me to be head of the nations. A people I didn't know will serve me.

He is the God who avenges me and brings peoples under me.
It's God who pays back for me, and who brings the people down under me.
It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me,
He frees me from my enemies. You lift me above those who rise against me; you rescue me from violent men.
And who brings me out from the ones against me. You've lifted me up too above the ones who got up against me. You've rescued me from the violent man.
And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
So I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing praises to your name.
So I'll give thanks to you, Lord, among the nations, and I'll sing praises to your name.
Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.
