Against false teaching
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour and the Lord Jesus Christ, who is our hope, to Timothy, my own son in the faith: grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. As I urged you when I left for Macedonia, stay on at Ephesus so you can tell certain people to stop teaching anything different, and not to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which stir up questions instead of building up God’s work through faith. The point of the instruction is love, out of a pure heart, a good conscience and sincere faith. Some have wandered off from that and turned aside to empty talk. They want to be teachers of the law, and they don't understand either what they are saying or what they are so sure about. Now we know the law is good, if a man uses it the way it is meant to be used, understanding that the law isn't laid down for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and irreverent, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for men who have sex with men, for slave traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for whatever else is against sound teaching, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was entrusted to me.

Knowing this, that the teaching isn't made for a righteous man but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and unclean, for killers of fathers and killers of mothers, for murderers, for ones who sin sexually, for men who lie with men, for stealers of men, for liars, for ones who swear falsely, and if there's any other thing against sound teaching. According to the glorious good news of the blessed God, that was handed to me.

Christ came to save sinners
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who gave me strength, because he counted me faithful and appointed me to his service — me, who used to be a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man. But I was shown mercy, because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was poured out on me in full measure, with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners — of whom I am chief. But for this reason I was shown mercy, so that in me first Jesus Christ might show all his patience, as an example to those who would later believe in him for everlasting life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen. This is the charge I am giving you, Timothy my son, in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by them you may fight the good fight, holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have thrown that away and made shipwreck of their faith. Hymenaeus and Alexander are among them. I have handed them over to Satan so they will learn not to blaspheme.
