The day of the Lord
Now about the times and the seasons, brothers, there is no need for me to write to you. You know perfectly well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. When people are saying, Peace and safety, that is when destruction comes on them all of a sudden, like labour pains on a pregnant woman, and there is no getting away from it. But you, brothers, are not in the dark, that the day should catch you out like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We don't belong to the night or to darkness. So then, let's not sleep like the others do. Let's stay awake and keep our heads. Those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let's keep our heads, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. Because God didn't appoint us to anger, but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we will live together with him. So encourage one another and build each other up, as in fact you are doing.
But about the times and the seasons, brothers, you don't need me to write to you. Because you know perfectly yourselves that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. Because when they say: Peace and safety — then sudden ruin comes on them, the way birth pains come on a woman who's pregnant. And they won't get away. But you, brothers, aren't in darkness, so that day should take you like a thief. You're all the children of light and the children of the day. We aren't of the night or of darkness. So let's not sleep, the way others do. But let's watch and be sober. Because the ones who sleep sleep in the night. And the ones who get drunk are drunk in the night. But let's, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. Because God hasn't set us for anger but to get salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. Who died for us, so whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. So comfort each other and build up each other, the way you do too.
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
Now about the times and the seasons, brothers, there is no need for me to write to you.
But about the times and the seasons, brothers, you don't need me to write to you.
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
You know perfectly well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
Because you know perfectly yourselves that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
When people are saying, Peace and safety, that is when destruction comes on them all of a sudden, like labour pains on a pregnant woman, and there is no getting away from it.
Because when they say: Peace and safety — then sudden ruin comes on them, the way birth pains come on a woman who's pregnant. And they won't get away.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
But you, brothers, are not in the dark, that the day should catch you out like a thief.
But you, brothers, aren't in darkness, so that day should take you like a thief.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
You are all children of the light and children of the day. We don't belong to the night or to darkness.
You're all the children of light and the children of the day. We aren't of the night or of darkness.
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
So then, let's not sleep like the others do. Let's stay awake and keep our heads.
So let's not sleep, the way others do. But let's watch and be sober.
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
Those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.
Because the ones who sleep sleep in the night. And the ones who get drunk are drunk in the night.
For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
But since we belong to the day, let's keep our heads, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
But let's, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
Because God didn't appoint us to anger, but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Because God hasn't set us for anger but to get salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we will live together with him.
Who died for us, so whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
So encourage one another and build each other up, as in fact you are doing.
So comfort each other and build up each other, the way you do too.
Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
Final words
Now we ask you, brothers, to recognise those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and pull you up when you need it, and to think very highly of them in love because of their work. And be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, brothers: warn the unruly, put heart into the discouraged, support the weak, and be patient with everyone. See that nobody pays back wrong for wrong. Always go after what is good for each other and for everyone. Be glad always. Pray without stopping. In everything give thanks, because this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Don't quench the Spirit. Don't look down on prophecies. Test everything. Hold on to what is good. Keep away from every appearance of evil. Now may the God of peace himself make you holy right through. And may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. Brothers, pray for us. Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. I charge you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the holy brothers. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
And we beg you, brothers, to know the ones who work among you and are over you in the Lord and warn you. And to hold them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves. Now we push you, brothers, warn the ones who are out of line, comfort the faint-hearted, hold up the weak, be patient towards all men. See that nobody pays back evil for evil to any man. But always follow what's good, both among yourselves and to all men. Celebrate always. Pray without stopping. In everything give thanks. Because this is the will of God in Christ Jesus about you. Don't put out the Spirit. Don't look down on prophesyings. Prove everything. Hold fast what's good. Keep away from every appearance of evil. And the very God of peace make you holy completely. And I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is the one who calls you, who'll do it too. Brothers, pray for us. Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. I charge you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. Brethren, pray for us. Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
