David goes to Gath
David thought to himself: One of these days Saul is going to get me. The best thing I can do is escape into Philistine territory. Then Saul will give up searching for me anywhere in Israel, and I'll be out of his reach. David and the six hundred men with him crossed over to Achish son of Maok, king of Gath. David and his men settled with Achish at Gath, each man with his household. David had his two wives with him: Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail of Carmel, Nabal's widow. When Saul was told David had fled to Gath, he stopped hunting him. David said to Achish: If you are pleased with me, give me somewhere to live in one of the country towns. Why should your servant live with you in the royal city? So Achish gave him Ziklag that day. That's why Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah ever since. David lived in Philistine territory for a year and four months.
And David said in his heart: I'll die one day now by the hand of Saul. There's nothing better for me than to get away quickly into the land of the Philistines. And Saul will despair of me, to look for me any more in any border of Israel. So I'll get away out of his hand. And David got up and went over, he and the six hundred men with him, to Achish son of Maok, king of Gath. And David said to Achish: If I've now found favour in your eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, so I can live there. David would answer: The Negev of Judah, or the Negev of the Jerahmeelites, or the Negev of the Kenites. David left no man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, thinking: Otherwise they'll tell Achish what we've really done. This was his practice the whole time he lived in Philistine territory. Achish trusted David, thinking: He's made himself thoroughly hated by his own people Israel. He'll be my servant for good.

David left no man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, thinking: Otherwise they'll tell Achish what we've really done. This was his practice the whole time he lived in Philistine territory.
And David didn't save man or woman alive, to bring news to Gath: In case they tell about us: That's what David did. And that's what he did all the time he lived in the country of the Philistines.
