Jabesh Gilead saved
Nahash the Ammonite came up and besieged Jabesh-Gilead. Everyone in Jabesh said to Nahash: Make a treaty with us and we'll serve you. Nahash replied: I'll make a treaty on one condition — I gouge out every man's right eye and bring disgrace on all Israel. The elders of Jabesh said: Give us seven days to send messengers throughout Israel. If nobody comes to save us, we'll surrender to you. The messengers came to Saul's Gibeah and reported the terms to the people. Everyone lifted their voices and wept. Saul was coming in from the fields behind his oxen. He asked: What's wrong with everyone? Why are they crying? They told him what the men of Jabesh had said. When Saul heard what had happened, the Spirit of God came powerfully on him and he burned with anger. He took a pair of oxen, cut them into pieces and sent the pieces throughout Israel with messengers saying: This is what will happen to the oxen of anyone who refuses to follow Saul and Samuel. The fear of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out as one. Saul counted them at Bezek: three hundred thousand men of Israel and thirty thousand from Judah. They told the messengers from Jabesh: Tell the men of Jabesh-Gilead, By the time the sun is hot tomorrow, you'll be rescued. The messengers brought the news, and the people of Jabesh were over the moon. The men of Jabesh told Nahash: Tomorrow we'll come out to you, and then you can do whatever you like with us. The next day Saul divided the army into three groups. During the morning watch they broke into the Ammonite camp and struck them down until the hottest part of the day. The survivors scattered so completely that no two were left together.

Then the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul and told the news in the ears of the people. And all the people lifted up their voice and wept. And there was Saul coming after the herd out of the field. And Saul said: What's the matter with the people, that they weep? And they told him the words of the men of Jabesh. And the Spirit of God came on Saul when he heard those words, and his anger was lit hard. And he took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces and sent them through all the borders of Israel by the hands of messengers: Whoever doesn't come out after Saul and after Samuel, that's what'll be done to his oxen. And the fear of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out as one man. And when he counted them in Bezek, the people of Israel were three hundred thousand and the men of Judah thirty thousand. And they said to the messengers who came: This is what you'll say to the men of Jabesh Gilead. Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you'll have help. And the messengers came and showed it to the men of Jabesh, and they were glad. So the men of Jabesh said: Tomorrow we'll come out to you, and you can do to us whatever seems good to you. And the next day Saul put the people in three companies. And they came into the middle of the camp in the morning watch and killed the Ammonites till the heat of the day. And the ones who were left were scattered, so no two of them were left together.

And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh. And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly. And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent. And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand. And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad. Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you. And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.

When Saul heard what had happened, the Spirit of God came powerfully on him and he burned with anger.
And the Spirit of God came on Saul when he heard those words, and his anger was lit hard.
And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

They told the messengers from Jabesh: Tell the men of Jabesh-Gilead, By the time the sun is hot tomorrow, you'll be rescued. The messengers brought the news, and the people of Jabesh were over the moon.
And they said to the messengers who came: This is what you'll say to the men of Jabesh Gilead. Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you'll have help. And the messengers came and showed it to the men of Jabesh, and they were glad.
And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.
The men of Jabesh told Nahash: Tomorrow we'll come out to you, and then you can do whatever you like with us.
So the men of Jabesh said: Tomorrow we'll come out to you, and you can do to us whatever seems good to you.
Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.

Saul made king at Gilgal
The people said to Samuel: Who was it saying, Is Saul really going to rule us? Hand those men over and we'll put them to death. But Saul said: No one is being put to death today, because today the Lord has rescued Israel. Then Samuel said to the people: Come on. Let's go to Gilgal and renew the kingship there. So all the people went to Gilgal and confirmed Saul as king before the Lord. They sacrificed peace offerings there, and Saul and all Israel celebrated properly.
And the people said to Samuel: Who's the one who said, Should Saul rule over us? Bring the men, so we can put them to death. And Saul said: Nobody will be put to death today. Because today the Lord has saved Israel. Then Samuel said to the people: Come and let's go to Gilgal and make the kingdom new there. And all the people went to Gilgal, and there they made Saul king in front of the Lord in Gilgal. And there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings in front of the Lord. And Saul and all the men of Israel celebrated a lot there.
And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death. And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the LORD hath wrought salvation in Israel. Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there. And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
The people said to Samuel: Who was it saying, Is Saul really going to rule us? Hand those men over and we'll put them to death.
