A living hope
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those living as strangers scattered through Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the work of the Spirit that makes you holy, for obedience to Jesus Christ and the sprinkling of his blood: grace and peace to you in full measure. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, into an inheritance that can't perish, be corrupted or fade, kept in heaven for you, who through faith are guarded by God's power for the salvation ready to be revealed at the last time. You are glad about this, though for a little while now you may have had to put up with all sorts of trials. These come so the proving of your faith — worth far more than gold, which perishes even though it is refined by fire — may be found to result in praise and honour and glory when Jesus Christ appears. You love him, though you have never seen him. And though you don't see him now, you believe in him and are filled with a joy beyond words and full of glory, receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. The prophets who spoke of the grace that was to come to you searched hard into this salvation and asked about it, trying to find out what time, and what sort of time, the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing to, when he testified beforehand about the sufferings of Christ and the glory that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but us, in the things now told to you by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven — things the angels long to look into.

To an inheritance that doesn't rot and is undefiled and doesn't fade away, kept in heaven for you. Who are kept by the power of God through faith to salvation ready to be shown in the last time. In this you greatly celebrate, though now for a season, if it has to be, you're heavy through different testings. So the trying of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that dies, though it's tried with fire, could be found to praise and honour and glory at the showing of Jesus Christ. Who having not seen you love. In him, though now you don't see him, yet believing you celebrate with joy past telling and full of glory. Getting the end of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Of this salvation the prophets have asked and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you. Searching what or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ in them showed, when it testified beforehand of the sufferings of Christ and the glory that would follow. To them it was shown that not to themselves but to us they served the things that are now reported to you by the ones who've preached the good news to you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven — things the angels want to look into.

The prophets who spoke of the grace that was to come to you searched hard into this salvation and asked about it,

trying to find out what time, and what sort of time, the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing to, when he testified beforehand about the sufferings of Christ and the glory that would follow.

It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but us, in the things now told to you by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven — things the angels long to look into.
To them it was shown that not to themselves but to us they served the things that are now reported to you by the ones who've preached the good news to you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven — things the angels want to look into.
Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
Be holy
So brace your minds, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, don't be shaped by the cravings you had when you didn't know any better. But as the one who called you is holy, so be holy in everything you do. Because it is written: Be holy, for I am holy. And if you call on a Father who judges each man's work without favouritism, then live out your time here as strangers, in reverent fear. You know it wasn't with perishable things like silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without defect or spot. He was chosen before the foundation of the world, but revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so your faith and hope are in God. Now that you have purified your souls by obeying the truth through the Spirit, leading to sincere love of the brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart. You have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For all flesh is like grass, and all the glory of man like the flower of the grass. The grass withers and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word that was preached to you.
So strap up the waist of your mind, be sober, and hope right to the end for the grace that's brought to you at the showing of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, not shaping yourselves according to the wants before, in your ignorance. But as the one who's called you is holy, be holy like that in every way of life. Because it's written: Be holy, because I'm holy. And if you call on the Father, who without taking sides judges according to every man's work, live your time of staying here in fear. Knowing that you weren't bought back with things that rot, like silver and gold, from your empty way of life handed down by tradition from your fathers.
