Feed the flock for slaughter
Open your doors, Lebanon, so the fire can eat up your cedars. Howl, fir tree, because the cedar has fallen and the mighty are spoiled. Howl, oaks of Bashan, because the forest of the vintage has come down. There is the sound of shepherds howling because their glory is spoiled, and young lions roaring because the pride of Jordan is spoiled. This is what the Lord my God says: Shepherd the flock marked for slaughter. Their buyers kill them and hold themselves not guilty. And those who sell them say, Blessed be the Lord, I have got rich. And their own shepherds have no pity on them. Because I will have no more pity on those who live in the land, says the Lord. Look — I will hand men over, each into his neighbour's hand and into the hand of his king. And they will crush the land, and I won't rescue anyone out of their hand. So I fed the flock marked for slaughter, even you poor of the flock. And I took two staffs. One I called Beauty and the other Bands, and I fed the flock. And I cut off three shepherds in one month. My soul loathed them, and their soul loathed me too. Then I said, I won't shepherd you. Let what is dying die, and what is being destroyed be destroyed, and let those left eat each other's flesh. And I took my staff, Beauty, and cut it in two, to break the covenant I had made with all the people. And it was broken that day. And the poor of the flock, who were watching me, knew it was the word of the Lord. And I said to them, If you think it right, give me my wages. And if not, keep them. So they weighed out my wages: thirty pieces of silver. And the Lord said to me, Throw it to the potter — that fine price they valued me at. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the Lord. Then I cut my other staff, Bands, in two, to break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
Open your doors, Lebanon, so the fire can eat your cedars. Howl, fir tree, because the cedar has fallen and the great ones are wrecked. Howl, you oaks of Bashan, because the thick forest has come down. There's a sound of the shepherds howling, because their glory is wrecked. There's a sound of young lions roaring, because the pride of the Jordan is wrecked. This is what the Lord my God says: Feed the flock for slaughter — the ones the owners kill and don't feel guilty about, and the ones who sell them say: Blessed be the Lord, because I'm rich. And their own shepherds don't feel for them. Because I won't feel for the people of the land any more, says the Lord. But look — I'll hand every man over into his neighbour's hand and into the hand of his king. And they'll strike the land, and I won't get them out of their hand. So I fed the flock for slaughter, the poorest of the flock. And I took two staffs — one I called Favour and the other I called Bonds. And I fed the flock. And I cut off three shepherds in one month. And my soul had had enough of them, and their soul loathed me too. Then I said: I won't feed you. What's dying, let it die. And what's to be cut off, let it be cut off. And let the ones left eat each other's flesh. And I took my staff Favour and cut it in two, to break my covenant that I'd made with all the peoples. And it was broken that day. And that's how the poorest of the flock who were watching me knew it was the word of the Lord. And I said to them: If it seems good to you, give me my wages. And if not, leave it. So they weighed out my wages, thirty pieces of silver. And the Lord said to me: Throw it to the potter — that fine price they set on me. And I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the Lord. Then I cut my other staff, Bonds, in two, to break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
Open thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour thy cedars. Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled: howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down. There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is spoiled: a voice of the roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is spoiled. Thus saith the LORD my God; Feed the flock of the slaughter; Whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their own shepherds pity them not. For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD: but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbour’s hand, and into the hand of his king: and they shall smite the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them. And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock. Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me. Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another. And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people. And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD. And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD. Then I cut asunder mine other staff, even Bands, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

The worthless shepherd
And the Lord said to me, Take the instruments of a foolish shepherd again. Because look, I am raising up a shepherd in the land who will not visit those being cut off, seek the young one, heal what is broken, or feed what stands still. But he will eat the flesh of the fat and tear their claws in pieces. Trouble is coming to the idol shepherd who leaves the flock. The sword will be on his arm and on his right eye. His arm will completely wither, and his right eye will be utterly darkened.
And the Lord said to me: Take the gear of a worthless shepherd again. Because look — I'll raise up a shepherd in the land who won't look after the ones being cut off, or go after the young one, or heal the broken one, or feed the one standing still. But he'll eat the flesh of the fat one and tear their hooves in pieces. Trouble is coming to the worthless shepherd who leaves the flock. The sword will be on his arm and on his right eye. His arm will be completely dried up, and his right eye will be completely blinded.
And the LORD said unto me, Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd. For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces. Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.
And the Lord said to me, Take the instruments of a foolish shepherd again.
