Faithful love built forever

I'll sing of the mercies of the LORD forever; with my mouth I'll make your faithfulness known to every generation. I've said that mercy will be built up forever; you will establish your faithfulness in the heavens themselves. I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant, I'll set your offspring up forever and build your throne for every generation. Selah. The heavens will praise your wonders, LORD, and your faithfulness in the assembly of the saints. Who in heaven can be compared to the LORD? Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the LORD? God is greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and to be held in awe by everyone around him. O LORD God Almighty, who is a strong LORD like you? Your faithfulness surrounds you. You rule the raging of the sea. When its waves rise, you settle them. You've broken Rahab in pieces like one of those killed. You've scattered your enemies with your strong arm. The heavens are yours and the earth is yours too. You've founded the world and everything in it. You've created north and south. Tabor and Hermon will shout for joy in your name. You have a mighty arm. Your hand is strong, and your right hand is lifted high. Righteousness and judgment are where your throne sits. Faithful love and truth go before your face. Blessed are the people who know the shout of joy. They'll walk, Lord, in the light of your face. They'll rejoice in your name all day long, and they'll be lifted up in your righteousness. Because you're the glory of their strength, and our horn will be lifted up in your favour. Because the LORD is our shield, and the Holy One of Israel is our king.

I'll sing about the faithful love of the Lord forever. I'll make your trueness known to every generation with my mouth. Because I've said: Faithful love will be built up forever. You'll set your trueness up in the heavens themselves. I've cut a covenant with my chosen one. I've sworn to David my servant: I'll set your offspring up forever and build your throne for every generation. And the heavens will praise your wonder, Lord, and your trueness too in the gathering of the holy ones. Because who in the sky can be lined up with the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty is like the Lord? God is greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and to be held in awe by everyone round him. Lord God Almighty, who's a strong Lord like you? And your trueness is all round you. You rule the raging of the sea. When its waves get up, you settle them. You've smashed Rahab in pieces like one of the killed. You've scattered the ones against you with your strong arm. The heavens are yours and the earth is yours too. You've founded the world and everything in it. You've created north and south. Tabor and Hermon will sing out in your name. You've got a strong arm. Your hand is mighty and your right hand is lifted high. Righteousness and judgment are where your throne sits. Faithful love and truth go in front of your face. Happy are the people who know the shout of joy. They'll walk, Lord, in the light of your face. They'll celebrate in your name all day long, and they'll be lifted up in your righteousness. Because you're the glory of their strength, and our horn will be lifted up in your favour. Because the Lord is our shield, and the Holy One of Israel is our king.

I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens. I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah. And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints. For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD? God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him. O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee? Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them. Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm. The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them. The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name. Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand. Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face. Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance. In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted. For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted. For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.

The covenant with David

Then you spoke in a vision to your faithful one and said: I've laid help on a strong man. I've lifted up a chosen one out of the people. I've found David my servant. I've anointed him with my holy oil. My hand will be steady with him, and my arm will make him strong. The enemy won't get the better of him, and the son of wickedness won't push him down. And I'll beat down his enemies before his face, and strike down those who hate him. But my faithfulness and my mercy will be with him, and in my name his horn will be exalted. And I'll set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers. He'll call to me: You're my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. And I'll make him the firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. I'll keep my mercy for him forever, and my covenant will stand steady with him. And I'll make his offspring last forever, and his throne as long as the days of heaven. If his children leave my law and don't walk in my judgments, If they break my rules and don't keep my commandments, Then I'll deal with their rebellion with a rod, and their wrongdoing with blows. But I won't completely take my faithful love from him, nor allow my faithfulness to fail. I won't break my covenant or change what's gone out of my lips. I've sworn once by my holiness: I won't lie to David. His offspring will last forever, and his throne like the sun before me. It'll be established forever like the moon, a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

And I'll beat down the ones against him in front of his face, and strike down the ones who hate him. But my trueness and my faithful love will be with him, and in my name his horn will be lifted up. And I'll set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers. He'll call to me: You're my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. And I'll make him the firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. I'll keep my faithful love for him forever, and my covenant will stand steady with him. And I'll make his offspring last forever, and his throne as long as the days of heaven. If his children leave my teaching and don't walk in my judgments, if they break my rules and don't keep my commands, then I'll deal with their rebellion with a rod, and their wrongdoing with blows. But I won't take my faithful love right off him or let my trueness fail. I won't break my covenant or change what's gone out of my lips. I've sworn once by my holiness: I won't lie to David. His offspring will last forever, and his throne like the sun in front of me. It'll be set up forever like the moon, a faithful witness in the sky.

Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people. I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him. The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him. But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted. I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers. He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven. If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail. My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

But you've thrown him off

But you've thrown him off and loathed him. You've been furious with your anointed. You've made nothing of the covenant with your servant. You've made his crown common on the ground. You've broken down all his fences. You've made his strongholds a ruin. Everyone going past on the road picks at him. He's an insult to his neighbours. You've lifted up the right hand of his enemies. You've made all his enemies glad. Yes, you've turned back the edge of his sword and haven't made him stand in the battle. You've made his splendour stop and thrown his throne down to the ground. You've cut short the days of his youth. You've covered him with shame. Selah. How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself forever? Will your fury burn like fire? Remember how short my time is. Why have you made all the people for nothing? What man can live and never see death? Can he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah. Lord, where are your former faithful love, which you swore to David in your truth? Remember, Lord, the insults your servants endure — how I carry the scorn of all these mighty peoples. The way your enemies have insulted, Lord — the way they've insulted the footsteps of your anointed. Blessed be the LORD forever. Amen and amen.
