The waters have come up to my soul
Save me, God, because the waters have come up to my soul. I'm sinking in deep mud with no footing. I've come into deep waters, and the flood goes over me. I'm weary with calling. My throat is dry. My eyes fail while I wait for my God. Those who hate me for no reason are more than the hairs on my head. Those who'd destroy me are strong, my enemies for a lie. I gave back what I never took. God, you know how stupid I've been, and my wrongs aren't hidden from you. Don't let those who wait for you be ashamed because of me, Lord God Almighty. Don't let those who seek you be humiliated because of me, God of Israel. Because for your sake I've carried insults. Shame has covered my face. I've turned into a stranger to my brothers, a foreigner to my mother's sons. Because the zeal of your house has eaten me up, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. When I wept and humbled myself by fasting, they mocked me for it. I made coarse mourning cloth my clothing, and I turned into a byword to them. Those who sit in the gate speak against me, and I am the song of the drunkards. But as for me, my prayer is to you, Lord, at an acceptable time. God, in the abundance of your mercy, answer me in the truth of your salvation. Deliver me of the mud and don't let me sink. Deliver me from those who hate me and out of the deep waters. Don't let the flood of waters go over me or the deep swallow me up. Don't let the pit shut its mouth on me. Hear me, Lord, because your mercy is good. Turn to me according to the greatness of your mercies. Don't hide your face from your servant, because I am in trouble; hear me quickly. Come near to my soul and redeem it. Deliver me because of my enemies.
Save me, God, because the waters have come up to my soul. I'm sinking in deep mud with no footing. I've come into deep waters, and the flood goes over me. I'm worn out with calling. My throat is dry. My eyes fail while I wait for my God. The ones who hate me for no reason are more than the hairs on my head. The ones who'd wreck me are strong, my enemies for a lie. I gave back what I never took. God, you know how stupid I've been, and my wrongs aren't hidden from you. Don't let the ones who wait for you be ashamed because of me, Lord God Almighty. Don't let the ones who look for you be humiliated because of me, God of Israel. Because for your sake I've carried insults. Shame has covered my face. I've turned into a stranger to my brothers, a foreigner to my mother's sons. Because the zeal of your house has eaten me up, and the insults of the ones who insult you have fallen on me. When I wept and put my soul on a fast, that turned into insults for me. I made sackcloth my clothing, and I turned into a byword to them. The ones sitting in the gate talk against me, and I'm the song of the drunks. But as for me, my prayer is to you, Lord, at an acceptable time. God, in the greatness of your faithful love, answer me in the truth of your salvation. Get me out of the mud and don't let me sink. Let me be got out from the ones who hate me and out of the deep waters. Don't let the flood of waters go over me or the deep swallow me up. Don't let the pit shut its mouth on me. Hear me, Lord, because your faithful love is good. Turn to me according to the greatness of your mercies. And don't hide your face from your servant, because I'm in a hard place. Hear me quickly. Come near to my soul and buy it back. Get me out because of my enemies.
Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God. They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away. O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee. Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel. Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face. I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children. For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me. When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach. I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them. They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards. But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation. Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me. Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies. And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily. Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.
Save me, God, because the waters have come up to my soul.

Poison for food
You know the insults I endure, my shame and my dishonour; all my enemies are before you. Insults have broken my heart, and I'm weighed down by it. I looked for someone to take pity, but there was no one; I looked for comforters, but found none. They gave me poison for food, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. Let their table before them turn into a trap, and what should have been for their good into a snare. Let their eyes go dark so they can't see, and make their backs shake all the time. Pour out your anger on them, and let the heat of your fury catch them. Let their dwelling place be desolate, and let no one live in their tents. They persecute the one you have struck, and speak of the grief of those you have wounded. Add wrongdoing to their wrongdoing, and don't let them come into your righteousness. Let them be wiped out of the book of the living, and not written down with the righteous. But I'm poor and hurting. Let your salvation, God, set me securely on high. I'll praise the name of God with a song, and magnify him with thanksgiving. And that'll please the LORD better than an ox or a bull with horns and hooves. The humble will see it and be glad. And your heart will live, you who seek God. Because the LORD hears the needy and doesn't despise his prisoners. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything moving in them. God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah, so they may live there and possess it. And the offspring of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will live in it.
You know the insults I've copped, and my shame and my disgrace. All the ones against me are in front of you. Insults have broken my heart, and I'm heavy with it. And I looked for someone to be sorry for me and there was nobody, and for comforters and I found none. They gave me poison for food, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. Let their table in front of them turn into a trap, and what should have been for their good into a snare. Let their eyes go dark so they can't see, and make their backs shake all the time. Pour out your anger on them, and let the heat of your fury catch them. Let their camp be a wreck, and let nobody live in their tents. Because they chase the one you've struck, and they talk about the pain of the ones you've wounded. Add wrongdoing to their wrongdoing, and don't let them come into your righteousness. Let them be wiped out of the book of the living, and not written down with the righteous. But I'm poor and hurting. Let your salvation, God, set me up high. I'll praise the name of God with a song, and make him big with thanks. And that'll please the Lord better than an ox or a bull with horns and hooves. The humble will see it and be glad. And your heart will live, you who look for God. Because the Lord hears the needy and doesn't look down on his prisoners. Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything moving in them. Because God will save Zion and build the towns of Judah, so they can live there and own it. And the offspring of his servants will inherit it, and the ones who love his name will live in it.
Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee. Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap. Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake. Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them. Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents. For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded. Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness. Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high. I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs. The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God. For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners. Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein. For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.
