Argue my case
Plead my cause, LORD, with those who strive with me. Fight against those who fight against me. Take hold of shield and small shield and stand up to help me. Pull out the spear and block the way against those chasing me. Say to my soul: I'm your salvation. Let those after my soul be ashamed and humiliated. Let those planning my harm be turned back and let down. Let them be like chaff in the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them. Let their way be dark and slippery, and let the angel of the LORD pursue them. Because they've hidden their net in a pit for me for no reason. For no reason they've dug it for my soul. Let ruin come on him without him knowing. Let the net he's hidden catch him. Let him fall into that very ruin. And my soul will rejoice in the LORD. It'll be glad in his salvation. All my bones will say: Lord, who's like you — getting the poor man out from the one too strong for him, the poor and needy from the one who robs him?
Argue my case, Lord, with the ones arguing with me. Fight the ones fighting me. Take hold of shield and buckler and stand up to help me. Pull out the spear and block the way against the ones chasing me. Say to my soul: I'm your salvation. Let the ones after my soul be ashamed and humiliated. Let the ones planning my harm be turned back and let down. Let them be like chaff in the wind, with the angel of the Lord driving them. Let ruin come on him without him knowing. Let the net he's hidden catch him. Let him fall into that very ruin. And my soul will celebrate in the Lord. It'll be glad in his salvation. All my bones will say: Lord, who's like you — getting the poor man out from the one too strong for him, the poor and needy from the one who robs him?
Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help. Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation. Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them. Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them. For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul. Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall. And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation. All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

They paid me back evil for good
Violent witnesses rose. They asked me things I don't know about. They repay me evil for good, leaving my soul bereft. But when they were sick, I wore coarse mourning cloth. I humbled myself with fasting, and my prayer came back unanswered. I went about like he was my friend or my brother. I bowed down in black like someone mourning his mother. But when I stumbled they were glad and gathered together. The bashers gathered against me and I didn't know it. They tore at me and wouldn't stop. Like godless mockers at a feast, they gnashed their teeth at me. Lord, how long will you look on? Get my soul back from their destroying, my only life from the lions. I'll thank you in the great assembly. I'll praise you among many people. Don't let those who are my enemies for a lie rejoice over me. Don't let those who hate me for no reason wink their eye. They don't speak peace; they devise deceitful matters against the quiet people of the land. And they opened their mouth wide at me and said: Aha, aha — our eye has seen it. You've seen it, Lord. Don't keep quiet. Lord, don't be far from me. Stir yourself and wake up for my judgment, my God and my Lord, for my case. Judge me according to your righteousness, Lord my God, and don't let them rejoice over me. Don't let them say in their heart: Ah, that's what our soul wanted. Don't let them say: We've swallowed him up. Let those who are glad at my hurt be ashamed and let down together. Let those who boast over me be wrapped in shame and disgrace. Let those who want my righteousness shout for joy and be glad. Let them keep saying: Let the LORD be magnified, the one who takes pleasure in his servant's peace. And my tongue will declare your righteousness and your praise all day long.
Violent witnesses got up. They asked me things I don't know about. They paid me back evil for good, till my soul was left with nothing. But when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I brought my soul low with fasting, and my prayer came back into my own chest. I went about like he was my mate or my brother. Get my soul back from their wrecking, my only life from the lions. I'll thank you in the great gathering. I'll praise you among plenty of people. Don't let the ones who are my enemies for a lie celebrate over me. Don't let the ones who hate me for no reason wink their eye. Because they don't speak peace, but they think up cheating words against the quiet ones in the land. And they opened their mouth wide at me and said: Ah, ah — our eye has seen it. You've seen it, Lord. Don't keep quiet. Lord, don't be far from me. Stir yourself and wake up for my judgment, my God and my Master, for my case. Judge me according to your righteousness, Lord my God, and don't let them celebrate over me. Don't let them say in their heart: Ah, that's what our soul wanted. Don't let them say: We've swallowed him up. Let the ones who are glad at my hurt be ashamed and let down together. Let the ones who big-note themselves against me be wrapped in shame and disgrace. Let the ones who want my righteousness sing out and be glad. Let them keep saying: Let the Lord be made big, the one who takes pleasure in his servant's peace. And my tongue will tell out your righteousness and your praise all day long.
False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not. They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul. But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom. I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother. But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not: With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth. Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions. I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people. Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause. For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land. Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it. This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me. Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me. Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up. Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me. Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant. And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
