Psalms 22

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? My God, I cry in the daytime, but you do not hear; and in the night, and I am not silent. But you're holy, sitting on the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in you. They trusted, and you delivered them.

Why have you left me?

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? My God, I cry in the daytime, but you do not hear; and in the night, and I am not silent. But you're holy, sitting on the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in you. They trusted, and you delivered them. They cried out to you and were rescued. They trusted in you and weren't ashamed. But I'm a worm and not a man — something men insult, something people despise. Everyone who sees me makes a joke of me. They stick their lips out and shake their heads: He trusted in the LORD — let him deliver him. Let him rescue him, seeing he was pleased with him. But you are the one who brought me out of the womb; you made me trust while I was at my mother's breast. I was thrown on you from the womb. You've been my God from my mother's belly. Don't be far from me, because trouble is close and there's nobody to help.

My God, my God, why have you left me? Why are you so far from saving me and from the words of my roaring? My God, I call by day and you don't answer, and at night, and I get no quiet. But you're holy, sitting on the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in you. They trusted, and you got them out. They cried out to you and were rescued. They trusted in you and weren't ashamed. But I'm a worm and not a man — something men insult, something people look down on. Everyone who sees me makes a joke of me. They stick their lips out and shake their heads: He trusted in the Lord — let him get him out. Let him rescue him, seeing he was pleased with him. But you're the one who pulled me out of the womb. You made me trust when I was at my mother's breast. I was thrown on you from the womb. You've been my God from my mother's belly. Don't be far from me, because trouble is close and there's nobody to help.

My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the day time, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts. I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly. Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.

Dogs have surrounded me

Many bulls have surrounded me; strong bulls of Bashan have closed in around me. They open their mouths wide at me like a lion tearing and roaring. I'm poured out like water and all my bones are pulled apart. My heart is like wax — it's melted inside me. My strength is dried up like a bit of broken pot, and my tongue sticks to my jaw. You've laid me in the dust of death. Dogs have surrounded me; the assembly of the wicked has enclosed me. They pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones. They look and stare at me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. But don't you be far off, Lord. My strength, hurry up and help me. Deliver my soul from the sword, my darling from the power of the dog. Save me from the lion's mouth. You've answered me from the horns of the wild oxen.

I'm poured out like water and all my bones are pulled apart. My heart is like wax — it's melted inside me. My strength is dried up like a bit of broken pot, and my tongue sticks to my jaw. You've laid me in the dust of death. Because dogs have surrounded me. A gang of evil men has closed in on me. They've pulled my hands and my feet apart. I can count all my bones. They look and stare at me. They divide my clothes among them and throw dice for what I wear. But don't you be far off, Lord. My strength, hurry up and help me. Get my soul out from the sword, my only life from the power of the dog. Save me from the lion's mouth. You've answered me from the horns of the wild oxen.

Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me. I'll tell out your name

I’ll declare your name to my brothers; I’ll praise you among the gathered people. You who fear the LORD, praise him. All you offspring of Jacob, give him glory. Stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel. Because he hasn't despised or loathed the suffering of the afflicted, and he hasn't hidden his face from him. When he cried out to him, he heard. My praise in the great assembly will be about you. I'll pay my vows in front of those who fear him. The humble will eat and be satisfied. Those who seek the LORD will praise him. May your heart live forever. All the ends of the earth will remember and turn back to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before you. Because the kingdom is the LORD's, and he rules over the nations. All the fat ones of the earth will eat and bow down. Everyone who goes down to the dust will kneel before him — and nobody can keep his own soul alive. Offspring will serve him. It'll be told about the LORD to the next generation. They'll come and declare his righteousness to a people yet to be born — that he's done it.

I'll tell out your name to my brothers. In the middle of the gathering I'll praise you. You who fear the Lord, praise him. All you offspring of Jacob, give him glory. Stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel. Because he hasn't looked down on or loathed the trouble of the afflicted, and he hasn't hidden his face from him. When he cried out to him, he heard. My praise in the great gathering will be about you. I'll pay my vows in front of the ones who fear him. The humble will eat and be satisfied. The ones who look for the Lord will praise him. I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee. Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard. The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever. All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. For the kingdom is the LORD’s: and he is the governor among the nations. All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.
