LORD, you've searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise. You understand my thoughts from far away. You know my path and my lying down; you're acquainted with all my ways. Before a word is even on my tongue, LORD, you know it completely.

You've searched me and known me

LORD, you've searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise. You understand my thoughts from far away. You know my path and my lying down; you're acquainted with all my ways. Before a word is even on my tongue, LORD, you know it completely. You've hemmed me in behind and before, and laid your hand on me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it's high, beyond my reach. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I climb into heaven, you're there. If I make my bed in hell, you're there too. If I take the wings of the morning and settle in the farthest parts of the sea, even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me. If I say, 'Surely the darkness will cover me,' even the night will be light around me. The darkness doesn't hide from you. The night shines like the day; darkness and light are both alike to you.

Lord, you've searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I get up. You understand what I'm thinking from a long way off. You go round my path and where I lie down, and you know all my ways. Because there's not a word on my tongue before you know all of it, Lord. You've hemmed me in behind and in front, and laid your hand on me. That kind of knowing is too much for me. It's too high — I can't get up to it. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I run from your face? If I go up to heaven, you're there. If I make my bed in the grave, look — you're there. If I take the wings of the morning and live at the far end of the sea, even there your hand will lead me and your right hand will hold me. If I say, The dark will cover me for sure — then even the night will be light round me. Yes, the dark isn't dark to you. The night shines like the day. Dark and light are the same to you.

O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

Woven together

You formed my inward parts; you wove me together in my mother's womb. I'll praise you, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, and my soul knows it very well. My body wasn’t hidden from you when I was made in secret and carefully formed in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance before it was formed. In your book all my members were written down — the days fashioned for me before any of them existed. How precious your thoughts are to me, God! How great the sum of them! If I tried to count them, they'd outnumber the sand. When I awake, I'm still with you. Surely you'll kill the wicked, God. So get away from me, you bloodthirsty men. They speak against you wickedly, and your enemies take your name in vain. Don't I hate those who hate you, LORD? Aren't I grieved by those who rise against you? I hate them with complete hatred; I count them as my enemies. Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.

Because you made all my inward parts. You wove me together in my mother's belly. I'll thank you, because I'm made in a way that's frightening and full of wonder. Your works are wonderful, and my soul knows that well. My frame wasn't hidden from you when I was made in secret, worked together in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw me before I was formed. And in your book all my parts were written down — the days that were shaped for me when there wasn't one of them yet. How precious your thoughts are to me, God. How great the sum of them is. If I counted them, there'd be more of them than the sand. When I wake up, I'm still with you. You'll definitely kill the wicked, God. So get away from me, you men of blood. Because they speak against you wickedly, and the ones against you take your name for nothing. Don't I hate the ones who hate you, Lord? Aren't I grieved with the ones who get up against you? I hate them with a full hatred. I count them as my enemies. Search me, God, and know my heart. Test me and know what I'm thinking. And see if there's any hurting way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
