Blessed are those who keep judgment, and the one who does righteousness at all times. Remember me, Lord, with the favour you show your people. Visit me with your salvation — so I may see the good of your chosen people, rejoice in the gladness of your nation, and glory with your inheritance. We've sinned with our fathers. And he gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting into their soul. They were jealous of Moses in the camp too, and of Aaron, the holy one of the LORD. The earth opened and swallowed Dathan and covered the company of Abiram. And a fire was lit in their company. The flame burnt up the wicked. They made a calf at Horeb and bowed down to a cast image. So they swapped their glory for the likeness of an ox that eats grass. They forgot God their saviour, who'd done great things in Egypt — Wonders in the land of Ham, terrifying things at the Red Sea. So he said he would destroy them, if Moses his chosen hadn't stood before him in the breach to turn away his anger from destroying them. Yes, they despised the pleasant land; they didn't believe his word.

Then Phinehas stood up and did judgment, and the plague was stopped. And it was counted to him as righteousness, for every generation forever. They made him angry at the waters of Meribah too, so it went badly for Moses because of them — Because they made his spirit bitter, so he spoke without thinking with his lips. They didn't destroy the peoples as the LORD commanded them, But mixed in with the nations and learned what they did. And they served their idols, and it turned into a trap for them. Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, And poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, those they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. And the land was polluted with blood. So they were made unclean by what they did, and went off with their own doings. So the anger of the LORD was hot against his people, and he loathed his own inheritance. And he handed them over to the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them. Their enemies pressed them too, and they were brought down under their hand. Many times he delivered them, but they provoked him with their counsel and were brought low for their wrongdoing. Still, he regarded their suffering when he heard their cry. And he remembered his covenant for them and was sorry, according to the greatness of his mercy. He made all those who'd carried them off feel for them too. Save us, LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, so we may give thanks to your holy name and triumph in your praise.
