Vows and bonds
Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of Israel: 'This is what the Lord has commanded.' If a man makes a vow to the Lord or swears an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he will not break his word. He will do everything that goes out of his mouth. If a woman makes a vow to the Lord and binds herself with a bond while she's in her father's house in her youth, And her father hears her vow and her bond that she's bound her soul with, and her father says nothing to her — then all her vows will stand, and every bond she's bound her soul with will stand. But if her father says no to her on the day he hears it, none of her vows or of her bonds that she's bound her soul with will stand. And the Lord will forgive her, because her father said no to her. If she had a husband when she vowed, or spoke something out of her lips that she bound her soul with, And her husband heard it and said nothing to her on the day he heard it — then her vows will stand, and her bonds that she bound her soul with will stand. But if her husband said no to her on the day he heard it, then he's made her vow that she vowed of no effect, and what she spoke out of her lips that she bound her soul with. And the Lord will forgive her. But every vow of a widow and of a divorced woman, that they've bound their souls with, will stand against her. If she vowed in her husband's house or bound her soul with a bond by an oath, And her husband heard it and said nothing to her and did not say no to her — then all her vows will stand, and every bond she bound her soul with will stand. But if her husband has made them of no effect on the day he heard them, then whatever went out of her lips about her vows or about the bond of her soul will not stand. Her husband has made them of no effect, and the Lord will forgive her. Every vow and every binding oath to bring the soul low, her husband can make it stand or her husband can make it of no effect. But if her husband says nothing at all to her from day to day, then he makes all her vows stand, or all her bonds that are on her. And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul; And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she bound her soul shall stand. But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of none effect: and the LORD shall forgive her. But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, wherewith they have bound their souls, shall stand against her. And if she vowed in her husband’s house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath; And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand. But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day he heard them; then whatsoever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband hath made them void; and the LORD shall forgive her. Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void. But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them. But if he shall any ways make them void after that he hath heard them; then he shall bear her iniquity. These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father’s house.
