The Lord spoke to Moses: 'Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites by being zealous with my zeal among them, so I did not consume the Israelites in my jealousy.' 'So say: I give him my covenant of peace.'
