Nineveh emptied

The one who smashes has come up against you. Guard the fortress. Watch the road. Brace yourself. Gather all your strength. For the Lord has turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel, because the emptiers have emptied them out and ruined their vine branches. The shields of his mighty men are red, his valiant men are in scarlet. The chariots will be with flaming torches on the day he prepares them, and the fir trees will be terribly shaken. The chariots tear through the streets, jostling one another in the open squares. They look like torches. They run like lightning. He calls up his officers. They stumble as they go. They rush to the wall, and the shelter is put in place. The gates of the rivers will be opened, and the palace will be dissolved. And Huzzab will be led away captive. She will be brought up, and her maids will lead her with voices like doves, beating on their breasts. But Nineveh of old was like a pool of water. Yet they flee away. Stand! Stand! they cry — but no one looks back. Take the silver. Take the gold. There is no end to the store, the wealth of every precious thing. She is empty, void and laid waste. Hearts melt, knees knock together, there is pain in every side, and all their faces gather blackness. Where is the lions' dwelling now, the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the old lion walked, and the lion's cub, with nothing to frighten them? The lion tore enough for his cubs and strangled prey for his lionesses. He filled his holes with prey and his dens with what he had torn. I am against you, says the Lord Almighty. I will burn your chariots in the smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions. I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will not be heard again.

The one who scatters has come up in front of you. Keep the stronghold. Watch the road. Make your back strong. Strengthen your power hard. Because the Lord will bring back the glory of Jacob like the glory of Israel. Because the ones who emptied them out have emptied them out and wrecked their vine branches. The shields of his strong men are red, and the fighting men are dressed in scarlet. The chariots flash with steel on the day he gets ready, and the spears are shaken. The chariots rage in the streets. They rush past each other in the wide places. They look like torches. They run like lightning. He'll count up his nobles. They'll stumble as they go. They'll hurry to her wall, and the covering will be set up. The gates of the rivers will be opened, and the palace will melt. And it's settled: she'll be uncovered and carried off. And her women servants will lead her along with the sound of doves, beating on their breasts. But Nineveh is like a pool of water from the old days. Even so, they'll run. Stand, stand, they'll cry — and nobody looks back. Take the plunder of silver. Take the plunder of gold. Because there's no end to the store, the glory of every precious thing. She's emptied and stripped and wasted. And the heart melts, and the knees knock together, and there's great pain in every side, and all their faces go pale. Where's the lions' den, the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, and the lion's cub, and nobody frightened them? The lion tore enough for his cubs and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with prey and his dens with what he'd torn. Look — I'm against you, says the Lord Almighty. And I'll burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword will eat your young lions. And I'll cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers won't be heard any more.

He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily. For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches. The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken. The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings. He shall recount his worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared. The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved. And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts. But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back. Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture. She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness. Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion’s whelp, and none made them afraid? The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin. Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
