Alms, prayer and fasting
Be careful not to give to the needy in front of people just to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the poor, don't sound a trumpet in front of you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, to be praised by men. I tell you the truth, they have their reward. But when you give to the poor, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly. And when you pray, don't be like the hypocrites. Because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners, to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have their reward. Don't store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don't break in and steal. Because where your treasure is, there your heart will be too. The light of the body is the eye. So if your eye is single, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light in you is darkness, how great is that darkness. No one can serve two masters. He will either hate the one and love the other, or hold to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

And yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory wasn't dressed like one of these. So if God clothes the grass of the field like that, which is here today and thrown into the oven tomorrow, won't he much more clothe you, you of little faith? So don't worry, saying, What should we eat? or, What should we drink? or, What should we wear? Because the Gentiles chase after all these things. And your heavenly Father knows you need all of them. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. So don't worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will worry about itself. Enough for the day is the trouble it brings.
