Judas and Pilate
When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. And when they had bound him they led him away and handed him over to Pontius Pilate the governor. Then Judas, who had betrayed him, when he saw that Jesus was condemned, was filled with remorse and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, I have sinned in betraying innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? See to it yourself. And he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and left, and went and hanged himself. And the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, It isn't lawful to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. And they took counsel and bought the potter's field with them, as a burial place for strangers. That is why that field is called the Field of Blood to this day. Then what was spoken by Jeremy the prophet was fulfilled: And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the one who was valued, whom the Israelites valued, and gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord directed me. And Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor asked him, Are you the King of the Jews? And Jesus said to him, You have said so. And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then Pilate said to him, Don't you hear how many things they are testifying against you? And they had at that time a notable prisoner called Barabbas. So when they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, Which do you want me to release to you — Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ? Because he knew they had handed him over out of envy. And while he was sitting on the judgement seat, his wife sent word to him, saying, Have nothing to do with that just man. Because I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him. But the chief priests and elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. The governor answered them, Which of the two do you want me to release to you? They said, Barabbas. Pilate said to them, What should I do then with Jesus who is called Christ? They all said to him, Let him be crucified. And the governor said, Why? What evil has he done? But they cried out all the more, saying, Let him be crucified. When Pilate saw he was getting nowhere, and that an uproar was starting instead, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person. Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right hand and another on the left. And those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself. If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross. In the same way the chief priests mocked him too, with the scribes and elders, and said, He saved others. He can't save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him. Because he said, I am the Son of God. The death
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani — that is, My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Some of those standing there, when they heard it, said, This man is calling for Elias. And straight away one of them ran and took a sponge and filled it with vinegar and put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink. The rest said, Leave him. Let us see whether Elias will come to save him. And when Jesus had cried out again with a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from the top to the bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks split. And the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city and appeared to many. Now when the centurion and those with him, who were watching Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that were done, they were terrified and said, Truly this was the Son of God. And many women were there, watching from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee and looked after him. Among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons.

Let's see whether Elijah will come to save him. Jesus, when he'd cried out again with a loud voice, gave up the ghost. And look — the curtain of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom.
