The land still to be taken
Joshua was now old and well advanced in years. The Lord said to him: You're getting on in years, and there is still a great deal of land left to take possession of. This is the land that's left: all the borders of the Philistines and all Geshuri, from the Shihor that's in front of Egypt as far as the border of Ekron northward, counted as Canaanite — the five lords of the Philistines, of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath and Ekron, and the Avvites too. From the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that's beside the Sidonians, as far as Aphek, to the border of the Amorites. the land of the Gebalites and all Lebanon toward the sunrise, from Baal Gad under Mount Hermon to the entrance of Hamath. Everyone living in the hills from Lebanon to Misrephoth Maim, and all the Sidonians — I'll drive them out in front of the Israelites. Only divide it by lot to Israel as an inheritance, just as I've commanded you. So now divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh.

Because Moses struck them and threw them out. But the Israelites didn't throw out the Geshurites or the Maakathites. But the Geshurites and the Maakathites live among the Israelites to this day. Only to the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance. The offerings of the Lord God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, just as he said to them. Moses gave to the tribe of the Reubenites by their families. The Israelites killed Balaam son of Beor, the fortune-teller, with the sword too, among the ones they killed. the border of the Reubenites was the Jordan and its border. This was the inheritance of the Reubenites by their families, the cities and their villages. Moses gave to the tribe of Gad, to the Gadites by their families. And their border was Jazer and all the cities of Gilead and half the land of the Ammonites, to Aroer that's in front of Rabbah, from Heshbon to Ramath Mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir, and in the valley Beth Haram and Beth Nimrah and Sukkoth and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan and its border, as far as the edge of the Sea of Kinnereth on the other side of the Jordan eastward. This is the inheritance of the Gadites by their families, the cities and their villages. Moses gave an inheritance to half the tribe of Manasseh. This is the inheritance of the children of Gad after their families, the cities, and their villages. And Moses gave inheritance unto the half tribe of Manasseh: and this was the possession of the half tribe of the children of Manasseh by their families. And their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities: And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were pertaining unto the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even to the one half of the children of Machir by their families. These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side Jordan, by Jericho, eastward. But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.
