Out of the whirlwind
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind: "Who is this that darkens counsel with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man. I will question you, and you will answer me. Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements, if you know? Who stretched the line upon it? What are its foundations fastened to? Who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Who shut up the sea with doors when it burst out as though it had come from the womb, when I made the cloud its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, and broke up for it my decreed place, setting bars and doors, and said, 'You may come this far, but no further; here your proud waves will be stopped'? Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place, so that it might take hold of the ends of the earth and shake the wicked out of it? It is changed like clay under a seal, and things stand out like a garment. The light of the wicked is withheld from them, and the high arm is broken. Have you entered the springs of the sea? Have you walked in the search of the depth? Have the gates of death been opened to you? Have you seen the doors of the shadow of death? Have you perceived the breadth of the earth? Declare it, if you know all this. Where is the way where light lives? And as for darkness, where is its place, so that you could take it to its boundary and know the paths to its house? Do you know, because you were born then? Is it because the number of your days is so great?
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind: Who's this who darkens counsel with words without knowledge? Strap yourself up like a man now, because I'll ask you, and you'll answer me. Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you've got understanding. Who set its measurements, if you know? Or who stretched the line out on it? What are its bases set on? Or who laid its cornerstone — when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it burst out as if it came out of the womb? When I made the cloud its clothing, and thick darkness its swaddling band, and marked out my set limit for it and set bars and doors, and said: This far you'll come and no further. And here your proud waves will be stopped. Have you ordered the morning since your days started, and made the dawn know its place — so it could take hold of the ends of the earth, so the wicked would be shaken out of it? It's changed like clay under the seal, and they stand out like a garment. And the light of the wicked is held back from them, and the high arm is broken. Have you gone into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the search of the deep? Have the gates of death been opened to you? Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death? Have you taken in the width of the earth? Tell me, if you know it all. Where's the way where light lives? And as for darkness, where's its place — so you could take it to its border, and so you'd know the paths to its house? You know, because you were born then. And because the number of your days is great.
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it, And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors, And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed? Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place; That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it? It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment. And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken. Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth? Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death? Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all. Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof, That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof? Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

Who determined its measurements, if you know? Who stretched the line upon it?

Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
What are its foundations fastened to? Who laid its cornerstone,
What are its bases set on? Or who laid its cornerstone —
Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

and said: This far you'll come and no further. And here your proud waves will be stopped.
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

Have you ordered the morning since your days started, and made the dawn know its place —

so it could take hold of the ends of the earth, so the wicked would be shaken out of it?
That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
It is changed like clay under a seal, and things stand out like a garment.
It's changed like clay under the seal, and they stand out like a garment.
It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
The light of the wicked is withheld from them, and the high arm is broken.
And the light of the wicked is held back from them, and the high arm is broken.
And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

Where is the way where light lives? And as for darkness, where is its place,
Where's the way where light lives? And as for darkness, where's its place —
Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
so that you could take it to its boundary and know the paths to its house?
so you could take it to its border, and so you'd know the paths to its house?
That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
Do you know, because you were born then? Is it because the number of your days is so great?
You know, because you were born then. And because the number of your days is great.
Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
The storehouses of the snow
Have you entered the treasures of the snow, or seen the treasures of the hail, which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war? By what way is the light parted, which scatters the east wind upon the earth? Who has divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder, to cause it to rain on the earth where no man is, on the wilderness where there is no one, to satisfy the desolate and waste ground and make the bud of the tender herb spring forth? Does the rain have a father? Who gives birth to the drops of dew? Out of whose womb came the ice? Who gave birth to the hoary frost of heaven? The waters are hidden as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen. Can you bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in its season, or guide Arcturus with his sons? Do you know the rules of heaven? Can you set their dominion in the earth? Can you lift your voice to the clouds and make an abundance of waters cover you? Can you send lightnings, so they go and say to you, 'Here we are'? Who has put wisdom in the inward parts, or given understanding to the heart? Who can number the clouds in wisdom, or stay the bottles of heaven, when the dust hardens into lumps and the clods stick fast together?
Have you gone into the storehouses of the snow? Or have you seen the storehouses of the hail, that I've kept back for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war? Which way is the light spread out, that scatters the east wind on the earth? Who's split a channel for the flood of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder — to make it rain on the earth where no man is, on the wilderness where there's nobody, to fill the wasted and ruined ground, and to make the bud of the tender plant spring out? Has the rain got a father? Or who's fathered the drops of dew? Whose womb did the ice come out of? And who gave birth to the frost of heaven? The waters are hidden as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen. Can you tie up the sweet influences of the Pleiades, or loosen the bands of Orion? Can you bring out the constellations in their season? Or can you guide the Bear with her children? Do you know the rules of heaven? Can you set up their rule over the earth? Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, so plenty of waters cover you? Can you send lightnings, so they go and say to you: Here we are? Who's put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who's given understanding to the heart? Who can number the clouds in wisdom? Or who can tip over the bottles of heaven, when the dust hardens into a lump and the clods stick fast together?

Who feeds the raven?
Will you hunt prey for the lion, or fill the appetite of the young lions, when they crouch in their dens and remain in the covert to lie in wait? Who provides the raven its food when its young cry to God and wander for lack of food?"
Will you hunt prey for the lion, or fill the appetite of the young lions, when they crouch in their dens and stay in the thicket to lie in wait? Who gets the raven his food, when his young ones cry out to God and wander about for want of food?
