Where will wisdom be found?
"Surely there is a vein for silver and a place where gold is refined. Iron is taken from the earth, and bronze is molten out of the stone. Man puts an end to darkness and searches out to the furthest limit the stones of darkness and the shadow of death. They cut a shaft far from where people live, in places forgotten by passing feet. Far from everyone else, they hang and swing below. As for the earth, bread comes out of it, and beneath it is turned up as though by fire. He binds the floods from overflowing, and the thing that is hidden he brings forth to light. But where can wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding? Man does not know its price, nor is it found in the land of the living. The depth says, 'It is not in me,' and the sea says, 'It is not with me.' It cannot be bought with gold, nor can silver be weighed out as its price. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx or the sapphire. Gold and crystal cannot equal it, and it cannot be exchanged for jewels of fine gold. No mention will be made of coral or pearls, for the price of wisdom is above rubies. The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, neither can it be valued with pure gold. So where does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding? It is hidden from the eyes of all living and kept close from the birds of the air. Destruction and death say, 'We have heard the fame of it with our ears.' God understands its way, and he knows its place. For he looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under heaven. He makes the weight for the winds and weighs the waters by measure. when he set a rule for the rain and a path for the lightning and thunder, then he saw it and declared it; he prepared it and searched it out. And to man he said, 'The fear of the Lord — that is wisdom; and turning away from evil is understanding.'"
