Who's this from Edom?

Who is this coming from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? This one glorious in his clothing, travelling in the greatness of his strength? ‘I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.’ Why are your clothes red, and your garments like a man treading the winepress? I've trodden the winepress on my own, and nobody from the peoples was with me. I trod them down in my anger and trampled them in my fury, and their lifeblood splashed on my clothes and I've stained all my garments. Because the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed had come. I looked, and there was no one to help. I was shocked that nobody stepped in. So my own arm brought me salvation, and my anger kept me going. I trod down the peoples in my anger and made them drunk in my fury, and I poured their lifeblood out on the ground.

Who's this coming from Edom, in dyed clothes from Bozrah — this one splendid in his clothing, striding along in the greatness of his strength? It's me, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save. Why are your clothes red, and your garments like a man treading the winepress? I've trodden the winepress on my own, and nobody from the peoples was with me. I trod them down in my anger and trampled them in my fury, and their lifeblood splashed on my clothes and I've stained all my garments. Because the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed had come. I looked and there was nobody to help. I was appalled that there was nobody to hold things up. So my own arm brought me salvation, and my fury held me up. I trod down the peoples in my anger and made them drunk in my fury, and I poured their lifeblood out on the ground.

Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

The faithful love of the Lord

I will mention the faithful love of the LORD and the praises of the LORD, according to all the LORD has given us, and the great goodness toward the people of Israel, which he has given them according to his mercies and the multitude of his faithful love. Because he said: They're my people, children who won't lie. So he became their saviour. In all their trouble he was troubled, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and his pity he redeemed them. He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old. But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned against them and fought them himself. Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people, saying, ‘Where is the one who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? Where is the one who put his holy Spirit within him?’ Who led them by Moses' right hand with his glorious arm, who split the waters before them to make himself an everlasting name, Who led them through the depths so they didn't stumble, like a horse in the wilderness? Like cattle going down into the valley, the Spirit of the LORD gave them rest. That's how you led your people, to make yourself a glorious name.

I'll tell out the faithful love of the Lord and the praises of the Lord, everything the Lord has done for us — the great goodness to the house of Israel that he's given them out of his mercy and the greatness of his faithful love. Because he said: They're my people, children who won't lie. So he became their saviour. In all their trouble he was troubled, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and his pity he redeemed them. He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old. But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned and became their enemy, and he fought against them himself. Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people: Where's the one who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where's the one who put his Holy Spirit inside him, who led them by Moses' right hand with his glorious arm, who split the waters in front of them to make himself an everlasting name, who led them through the depths so they didn't stumble, like a horse in the wilderness? Like cattle going down into the valley, the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest. That's how you led your people, to make yourself a glorious name.

I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses. For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour. In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old. But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where is he that put his holy Spirit within him? That led them by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make himself an everlasting name? That led them through the deep, as an horse in the wilderness, that they should not stumble? As a beast goeth down into the valley, the Spirit of the LORD caused him to rest: so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name.

Look down from heaven

Look down from heaven and see, from the dwelling of your holiness and your glory. Where's your zeal and your strength, the stirring of your insides and your mercy towards me? Are they held back? Surely you are our father, though Abraham doesn't know us and Israel doesn't acknowledge us. You, O LORD, are our father; our redeemer — your name is from everlasting. Lord, why have you let us wander off your ways and hardened our hearts against fearing you? Come back, for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your inheritance. Your holy people had it only a little while. Our enemies have trampled your holy place. We've become like people you never ruled, like people who were never called by your name.

Look down from heaven and see, from the dwelling of your holiness and your glory. Where's your zeal and your strength, the stirring of your insides and your mercy towards me? Are they held back? But you're our father, though Abraham doesn't know us and Israel doesn't recognise us. You, Lord, are our father, our redeemer from long ago — that's your name.

Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where is thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained? Doubtless thou art our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O LORD, art our father, our redeemer; thy name is from everlasting. O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants’ sake, the tribes of thine inheritance. The people of thy holiness have possessed it but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary. We are thine: thou never barest rule over them; they were not called by thy name.
