A cake not turned over

When I would heal Israel, the guilt of Ephraim is uncovered, and the wickedness of Samaria. They deal in lies. The thief breaks in and the gang of robbers raids outside. And they don't say to themselves that I remember all their wickedness. Now their own deeds have hemmed them in, and they are right in front of my face. They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies. They are all adulterers, hot as an oven the baker doesn't need to stir from the kneading of the dough until it has risen. In the day of our king the princes made him sick with bottles of wine. He stretched out his hand with scorners. They have made their hearts ready like an oven while they lie in wait. Their baker sleeps all night; in the morning it burns like a flaming fire. They are all hot as an oven and they eat up their rulers. All their kings have fallen, and not one of them calls on me. Ephraim has mixed himself among the people. Ephraim is a cake not turned. Strangers have eaten up his strength, and he doesn't know it. Grey hairs are showing on him here and there, and he doesn't know it. The pride of Israel testifies against him to his face. Even so, they don't return to the Lord their God or seek him. Ephraim is also like a silly dove without heart. They call to Egypt; they go to Assyria. When they go, I will spread my net over them. I will bring them down like birds of the sky. I will discipline them, as their assembly has heard. Trouble is coming to them, because they have fled from me. Destruction to them, because they have transgressed against me. Though I have redeemed them, they have spoken lies against me. They don't cry out to me from the heart, but wail on their beds. They gather for grain and wine, and they turn against me. Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, they imagine mischief against me. They return, but not to the Most High. They are like a deceitful bow. Their princes will fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue. This will be their derision in the land of Egypt.

When I'd have healed Israel, then the wrongdoing of Ephraim showed up, and the wickedness of Samaria. Because they deal falsely, and the thief comes in and the mob robs outside. And they don't think in their heart that I remember all their wickedness. Now what they've done has got them surrounded. It's in front of my face. They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the officials with their lies. They're all adulterers, like an oven heated by the baker, who stops stirring the fire after he's kneaded the dough till it's risen. On the day of our king the officials made themselves sick with bottles of wine. He stretched out his hand with the scoffers. Because they've made their heart ready like an oven while they lie in wait. Their baker sleeps all night. In the morning it burns like a flaming fire. They're all hot as an oven, and they've eaten up their judges. All their kings have fallen. There's nobody among them who calls to me. Ephraim has mixed himself among the peoples. Ephraim is a cake not turned over. Strangers have eaten up his strength and he doesn't know it. Yes, grey hairs are showing on him here and there, and he doesn't know it. And the pride of Israel testifies to his face. And they don't turn back to the Lord their God or look for him for all this. And Ephraim is like a silly dove with no sense. They call to Egypt. They go to Assyria. When they go, I'll spread my net over them. I'll bring them down like the birds of the sky. I'll set them straight, the way their gathering has heard. Trouble is coming to them, because they've run off from me. Wrecking is coming to them, because they've rebelled against me. Though I've bought them back, they've spoken lies against me. And they haven't cried out to me with their heart when they howled on their beds. They gather themselves for grain and new wine, and they rebel against me. Though I've trained and made their arms strong, they think up evil against me. They turn back, but not to the Most High. They're like a bent bow. Their officials will fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue. This will be their laughing stock in the land of Egypt.

When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in, and the troop of robbers spoileth without. And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face. They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies. They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, who ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened. In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners. For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire. They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me. Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned. Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not. And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him for all this. Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria. When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard. Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me. And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me. Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me. They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.
