Write the vision down
I will stand at my watch and take my place on the tower. I will look out to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give when I am pulled up about it. And the Lord answered me: Write the vision down. Set it out plain on tablets, so a man can read it on the run. For the vision is still for an appointed time, but at the end it will speak and not lie. Though it waits, wait for it, because it will surely come and will not be late. Look at the proud man — he is not upright inside. But the just will live by his faith. And because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man who does not stay at home. He enlarges his desire as hell and is like death, never satisfied. He gathers all nations to himself and heaps all peoples to himself.
I'll stand at my watch and set myself on the tower, and I'll look out to see what he'll say to me and what I'll answer when I'm pulled up. And the Lord answered me: Write the vision down and make it plain on tablets, so a man can run while he reads it. Because the vision is still for the set time, and at the end it'll speak and not lie. Though it takes a while, wait for it. Because it'll definitely come, and it won't be late. Look — the one whose soul is lifted up isn't straight in him. But the righteous will live by his faith. Yes, wine takes him in. He's a proud man who doesn't stay home. He makes his want as big as the grave, and like death he can't get enough. He gathers all the nations to himself and heaps up all the peoples.
I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

Trouble is coming
Won't they all take up a taunt against him, a proverb with a sting in it, and say: Trouble is coming to the man who piles up what isn't his — how long? — and loads himself with thick clay. Won't those who come after you rise suddenly, and those who make you tremble wake up? Then you'll become their loot. Because you have plundered many nations, what is left of the peoples will plunder you — for the blood of men, and for the violence done to the land, the city, and everyone living in it. Trouble is coming to the man who gets ill-gotten gain for his house, so he can set his nest up high and be out of reach of harm. You have planned shame for your house by cutting off many peoples, and you have sinned against your own soul. For the stone will cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the woodwork will answer it. Trouble is coming to the man who builds a town with blood, and sets a city up on wrongdoing. Isn't it from the Lord Almighty that people work themselves out for the fire, and nations wear themselves out for nothing? For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. Trouble is coming to the man who gives his neighbour drink, putting his bottle to him and making him drunk as well, so he can look on his nakedness. You are filled with shame instead of glory. Drink yourself, then, and let your foreskin be uncovered. The cup of the Lord's right hand will be turned to you, and shameful spewing will be on your glory. For the violence of Lebanon will cover you, and the destruction of animals, which made them afraid — because of men's blood and the violence of the land, the city, and everyone living in it. What use is a carved image, when its maker has carved it — a cast image, a teacher of lies? The man who made it trusts in his own work, when what he has made cannot speak. Trouble is coming to the man who says to a piece of wood, Wake up, or to a silent stone, Get up and teach. Look at it — plated with gold and silver, and not a breath in it. But the Lord is in his holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before him.
Won't all these take up a saying against him and a mocking riddle, and say: Trouble is coming to the one who piles up what isn't his — how long? — and loads himself with pledges. Won't the ones you owe get up suddenly, and won't the ones who shake you wake up? And you'll be plunder for them. Because you've looted plenty of nations, all the rest of the peoples will loot you — because of men's blood and the violence done to the land, to the town and everyone living in it. Trouble is coming to the one who gets dishonest gain for his house, so he can set his nest up high and get away from the reach of trouble. You've planned shame for your own house by cutting off plenty of peoples, and you've sinned against your own soul. Because the stone will cry out from the wall, and the beam out of the woodwork will answer it. Trouble is coming to the one who builds a town with blood and sets up a place with wrongdoing. Look — isn't it from the Lord Almighty that the peoples work for the fire and the nations wear themselves out for nothing? Because the earth will be filled with knowing the glory of the Lord, the way the waters cover the sea. Trouble is coming to the one who gives his neighbour drink, who pours out your bottle to him and makes him drunk too, so you can look at their nakedness. You're filled with shame instead of glory. Drink yourself, and let your own nakedness show. The cup of the Lord's right hand will be turned to you, and shameful vomit on your glory. Because the violence done to Lebanon will cover you, and the wrecking of the animals that frightened them — because of men's blood and the violence done to the land, to the town and everyone living in it. What use is a carved image, that its maker has carved it — a cast image and a teacher of lies — that the man who made it trusts in what he's made, to make dumb idols? Trouble is coming to the one who says to the wood, Wake up, and to the dumb stone, Get up, it'll teach. Look — it's covered with gold and silver, and there's no breath at all inside it. But the Lord is in his holy temple. Let the whole earth be quiet in front of him.
Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay! Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them? Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men’s blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein. Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil! Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul. For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it. Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity! Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity? For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness! Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it. But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.
