No other good news

I am amazed how quickly you are deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ, and going over to a different gospel — which isn't another gospel at all. There are just some people stirring you up and wanting to twist the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel out of heaven, preach any other gospel to you than the one we preached, let him be cursed. I have said it before and I will say it again: if anyone preaches a different gospel to you from the one you received, let him be cursed. Am I trying to win over people now, or God? Am I out to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I wouldn't be a servant of Christ.

I'm shocked that you're so soon moved away from the one who called you into the grace of Christ to another good news. That isn't another. But there are some who trouble you and want to twist the good news of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven preaches any other good news to you than what we've preached to you, let him be cursed. The way we said before, so I say now again: If any man preaches any other good news to you than what you've taken, let him be cursed. Because do I now talk men round, or God? Or do I look to please men? Because if I still pleased men, I wouldn't be the servant of Christ.

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

How Paul was called

I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached isn't something a man came up with. I didn't get it from any man, and nobody taught it to me. It came by a revelation of Jesus Christ. You have heard what I was like back when I was in the Jewish religion — how savagely I persecuted the church of God and tried to wipe it out. And I was getting ahead in that religion faster than most men my own age among my people, because I was that much more fanatical about the traditions of my fathers. But when it pleased God, who set me apart from my mother's womb and called me by his grace, to reveal his Son in me so I could preach him among the nations — I didn't immediately confer with flesh and blood. I didn't go up to Jerusalem to the apostles who were there before me. I went off to Arabia, and came back again to Damascus. Then three years later I went up to Jerusalem to get to know Peter, and I stayed with him fifteen days. I didn't see any of the other apostles, except James, the Lord's brother. What I am writing to you — before God, I am not lying. After that I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. And the churches of Judaea that are in Christ still didn't know me by sight. They had only heard it said, The man who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy. And they praised God because of me.

But I let you know, brothers, that the good news preached by me isn't after man. Because I didn't take it of man, and I wasn't taught it, but by the showing of Jesus Christ. Because you've heard of my way of life in time past in the Jews' religion, how past measure I chased the church of God and wrecked it. And went ahead in the Jews' religion above plenty of my equals in my own nation, being more strongly zealous for the traditions of my fathers. But when it pleased God, who set me apart from my mother's womb and called me by his grace, to show his Son in me, so I could preach him among the nations, straight away I didn't talk it over with flesh and blood. And I didn't go up to Jerusalem to the ones who were apostles before me. But I went into Arabia and came back again to Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and stayed with him fifteen days. But I didn't see any other of the apostles, except James the Lord's brother. Now the things I write to you, look — in front of God I don't lie. Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. And I wasn't known by face to the churches of Judea that were in Christ. But they'd only heard: The one who chased us in times past now preaches the faith he once wrecked. And they gave glory to God in me.

But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: And profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers. But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days. But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord’s brother. Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not. Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia; And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ: But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed. And they glorified God in me.
