So the altar hearth was four cubits, and four horns going up from the hearth. The altar will be twelve cubits long and twelve broad, square on its four sides. And the ledge was fourteen cubits long and fourteen wide on its four sides. And the edge round it was half a cubit, and its base a cubit round. And its steps faced east. He said to me, “Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: These are the rules of the altar on the day they make it, to offer burnt offerings upon it and sprinkle blood upon it. And you'll give a young bull for a sin offering to the priests, the Levites of the offspring of Zadok, who come near me to serve me, says the Lord GOD. And you'll take some of its blood and put it on its four horns and on the four corners of the ledge and on the edge all round. That's how you'll make it clean and cover it over. You'll take the bull of the sin offering too, and he'll burn it in the set place of the house, outside the sanctuary. And on the second day you'll offer a goat without fault for a sin offering. And they'll make the altar clean the way they made it clean with the bull. When you've finished making it clean, you'll offer a young bull without fault and a ram out of the flock without fault.
