Setting up the tabernacle
Then the Lord said to Moses: Set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, on the first day of the first month. Place the ark of the covenant law in it and shield the ark with the curtain. Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the covenant law and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting; place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it. Set up the courtyard around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be holy. Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy. Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them. Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water. Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest. Bring his sons and dress them in tunics. Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue throughout their generations. Moses did everything just as the Lord commanded him. So the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month in the second year. When Moses set up the tabernacle, he put the bases in place, erected the frames, inserted the crossbars and set up the posts. Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, as the Lord commanded him. He took the tablets of the covenant law and placed them in the ark, attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover over it. Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain and shielded the ark of the covenant law, as the Lord commanded him. Moses placed the table in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain and set out the bread on it before the Lord, as the Lord commanded him. He placed the lampstand in the tent of meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle and set up the lamps before the Lord, as the Lord commanded him. Moses placed the gold altar in the tent of meeting in front of the curtain and burned fragrant incense on it, as the Lord commanded him. Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. He set the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings, as the Lord commanded him. He placed the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing, and Moses and Aaron and his sons used it to wash their hands and feet. They washed whenever they entered the tent of meeting or approached the altar, as the Lord commanded Moses. Then Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work.
Then the Lord said to Moses:
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, on the first day of the first month.
On the first day of the first month shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.
Place the ark of the covenant law in it and shield the ark with the curtain.
And thou shalt put therein the ark of the testimony, and cover the ark with the vail.
Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps.
And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it; and thou shalt bring in the candlestick, and light the lamps thereof.
Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the covenant law and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
And thou shalt set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the hanging of the door to the tabernacle.
Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting;
And thou shalt set the altar of the burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.
place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it.
And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and shalt put water therein.
Set up the courtyard around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard.
And thou shalt set up the court round about, and hang up the hanging at the court gate.
Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be holy.
And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy.
Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy.
And thou shalt anoint the altar of the burnt offering, and all his vessels, and sanctify the altar: and it shall be an altar most holy.
Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them.
And thou shalt anoint the laver and his foot, and sanctify it.
Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water.
And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water.
Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest.
And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.
Bring his sons and dress them in tunics.
And thou shalt bring his sons, and clothe them with coats:
Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue throughout their generations.
And thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office: for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.
Moses did everything just as the Lord commanded him.
Thus did Moses: according to all that the LORD commanded him, so did he.
So the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month in the second year.
And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.
When Moses set up the tabernacle, he put the bases in place, erected the frames, inserted the crossbars and set up the posts.
And Moses reared up the tabernacle, and fastened his sockets, and set up the boards thereof, and put in the bars thereof, and reared up his pillars.
Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, as the Lord commanded him.
And he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as the LORD commanded Moses.
He took the tablets of the covenant law and placed them in the ark, attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover over it.
And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy seat above upon the ark:
Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain and shielded the ark of the covenant law, as the Lord commanded him.
And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the vail of the covering, and covered the ark of the testimony; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Moses placed the table in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain
And he put the table in the tent of the congregation, upon the side of the tabernacle northward, without the vail.
and set out the bread on it before the Lord, as the Lord commanded him.
And he set the bread in order upon it before the LORD; as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He placed the lampstand in the tent of meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle
And he put the candlestick in the tent of the congregation, over against the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward.
and set up the lamps before the Lord, as the Lord commanded him.
And he lighted the lamps before the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Moses placed the gold altar in the tent of meeting in front of the curtain
And he put the golden altar in the tent of the congregation before the vail:
and burned fragrant incense on it, as the Lord commanded him.
And he burnt sweet incense thereon; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
And he set up the hanging at the door of the tabernacle.
He set the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings, as the Lord commanded him.
And he put the altar of burnt offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the meat offering; as the LORD commanded Moses.
He placed the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing,
And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash withal.
and Moses and Aaron and his sons used it to wash their hands and feet.
And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet thereat:
They washed whenever they entered the tent of meeting or approached the altar, as the Lord commanded Moses.
When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Then Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work.
And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work.
The glory fills the tabernacle
Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out — until the day it lifted. So the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.
Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;
And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys:
but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out — until the day it lifted.
But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up.
So the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.
For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.
