The prophet who says, Let's go after other gods
If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder comes true, the one he spoke to you about, and he says, Let's go after other gods that you haven't known, and let's serve them — do not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer of dreams. The Lord your God is proving you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul. You'll follow the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and listen to his voice, and you'll serve him and stick to him. That prophet or dreamer of dreams will be put to death, because he has spoken to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, and to thrust you out of the way the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you'll put the evil away from among you.
If a prophet gets up among you, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes true, the one he spoke to you about, and he says, Let's go after other gods that you haven't known, and let's serve them — you won't listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. Because the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with your whole heart and your whole soul. You'll walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his orders and listen to his voice, and you'll serve him and stick to him. And that prophet or that dreamer of dreams will be put to death, because he's spoken to turn you away from the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt and bought you back out of the house of slaves — to push you off the way the Lord your God ordered you to walk in. That's how you'll clear the evil out from among you.
If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

If your own family tries it
If your brother, your mother's son, your son or daughter, the wife you hold close, or your closest mate who is as your own soul, secretly tries to entice you, saying, 'Let's go and serve other gods,' which neither you nor your fathers have known — Gods of the peoples round you, near you or a long way off from you, from one end of the earth to the other — do not agree with him or listen to him. Your eye won't pity him; do not spare him or conceal him. You'll surely put him to death. Your hand will be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. Stone him with stones until he dies, because he tried to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, from the house of slavery. All Israel will hear it and be frightened, and they won't do a wicked thing like this among you again.
If your brother, your own mother's son, or your son or your daughter or the wife you hold close, or your mate who's like your own soul, tries to talk you into it quietly, saying, Let's go and serve other gods that you haven't known, you or your fathers — gods of the peoples round you, near you or a long way off from you, from one end of the earth to the other — don't give in to him or listen to him. Don't let your eye spare him, and don't feel for him or cover for him. But you'll kill him for sure. Your hand will be the first on him to put him to death, and after that the hand of all the people. And you'll stone him with stones till he dies, because he's tried to push you away from the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slaves. And all Israel will hear it and be frightened, and they won't do a wicked thing like this among you again.
If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. Gods of the peoples round you, near you or a long way off from you, from one end of the earth to the other —
gods of the peoples round you, near you or a long way off from you, from one end of the earth to the other —
Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;
do not agree with him or listen to him. Your eye won't pity him; do not spare him or conceal him.
don't give in to him or listen to him. Don't let your eye spare him, and don't feel for him or cover for him.
Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:

All Israel will hear it and be frightened, and they won't do a wicked thing like this among you again.
And all Israel will hear it and be frightened, and they won't do a wicked thing like this among you again.
And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.
The town that goes rotten
If you hear it said about one of your cities that the Lord your God has given you to live in, if certain men, the children of Belial, have gone out from among you and drawn away the people of their city, saying, 'Let's go and serve other gods,' which you have not known, then enquire, search and ask diligently. If it is true and certain that this disgusting thing has been done among you, You'll strike down the people of that city with the edge of the sword, completely destroying it and everything in it and its cattle, with the edge of the sword. gather all its loot into the middle of the street and burn the city and every bit of its loot with fire for the Lord your God. It'll be a heap forever and won't be built again. Nothing of the cursed thing will stick to your hand, so the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger, show you mercy, have compassion on you and multiply you, as he swore to your fathers, when you listen to the Lord your God, keep all his commandments that I command you today, and do what is right in the LORD's eyes your God.
If you hear it said about one of your towns that the Lord your God has given you to live in, that some good-for-nothing men have gone out from among you and pulled the people of their town away, saying, Let's go and serve other gods that you haven't known — then you'll look into it and search it out and ask about it carefully. And if it's true and certain that this disgusting thing has been done among you, you'll strike down the people of that town with the edge of the sword, completely wrecking it and everything in it and its cattle, with the edge of the sword. And you'll gather all its loot into the middle of the street and burn the town with fire, and all its loot completely, for the Lord your God. And it'll be a heap forever. It won't be built again. And nothing marked for wrecking will stick to your hand — so the Lord turns from the heat of his anger and shows you mercy and feels for you and makes you many, the way he swore to your fathers, when you listen to the voice of the Lord your God, to keep all his orders that I'm ordering you today, to do what's right in the eyes of the Lord your God.
If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying, Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you; Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword. And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again. And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers; When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.
