Uzzah and the ark
David gathered thirty thousand chosen men from Israel. Then he and all his people set out from Baale Judah to bring up the ark of God, which bears the name of the Lord Almighty, enthroned between the cherubim. They placed the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from Abinadab's house on the hill. Abinadab's sons Uzzah and Ahio were guiding the cart. They brought the ark from Abinadab's house on the hill, with Ahio walking ahead of it. David and the whole people of Israel celebrated before the Lord with all kinds of instruments: lyres, harps, tambourines, castanets and cymbals. When they reached Nachon's threshing floor, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God. The Lord's anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down there for his irreverence. He died beside the ark of God. David was angry because the Lord had broken out against Uzzah. That place has been called Perez Uzzah to this day. David was afraid of the Lord that day and said, How can the ark of the Lord ever come to me? So David wouldn't bring the ark of the Lord into the City of David. Instead he took it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. The ark of the Lord stayed at Obed-Edom's house for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his whole household.

So David wouldn't bring the ark of the Lord into the City of David. Instead he took it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

The ark of the Lord stayed at Obed-Edom's house for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his whole household.

And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household.

Then David was told, The Lord has blessed Obed-Edom's household and everything he owns because of the ark of God. So David went and brought the ark from Obed-Edom's house to the City of David with great celebration. After those carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, David sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf. David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a linen priestly apron. David and the whole people of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets. As the ark entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. She saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart. They brought the ark of the Lord inside and set it in the tent David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. When David finished making the offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty. Then he gave every man and woman in the whole crowd of Israel a loaf of bread, a good portion of meat and a flagon of wine. After that everyone headed home. David returned to bless his own household, but Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, Well, didn't the king of Israel make a fine spectacle of himself today, exposing himself in front of his servants' slave girls like some shameless fool. David told Michal, I was dancing before the Lord, who chose me over your father and his whole house and appointed me ruler over the Lord's people Israel. I'll celebrate before the Lord. And I'll make myself even more undignified than this. I'll humble myself in my own eyes, but those slave girls you mentioned will honour me. And Michal daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.
And King David was told: The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and everything he's got, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom into the City of David with gladness. And when the ones who carried the ark of the Lord had gone six steps, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings. And David danced in front of the Lord with all his might. And David was dressed in a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet. And as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul's daughter, looked out a window and saw King David leaping and dancing in front of the Lord. And she looked down on him in her heart. And they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it in its place, in the middle of the tent David had pitched for it. And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings in front of the Lord. And as soon as David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty. And he handed out to all the people, to the whole crowd of Israel, both to women and men, to every one a loaf of bread and a good piece of meat and a cake of raisins. So all the people went off, every one to his house. Then David came back to bless his household. And Michal, Saul's daughter, came out to meet David: How glorious the king of Israel was today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the servant girls of his servants, the way one of the empty fellows shamelessly uncovers himself. And David said to Michal: It was in front of the Lord, who chose me before your father and before all his house, to set me up as ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. So I'll play in front of the Lord. And I'll be even lower than this and be low in my own sight. And of the servant girls you've spoken about, I'll be held in honour by them. So Michal, Saul's daughter, had no child right to the day of her death.
And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness. And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings. And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart. And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts. And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house. Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself! And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD. And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour. Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.
