The day of the Lord
This is now my second letter to you, dear friends. In both of them I stir up your pure minds by reminding you, so you will remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets, and the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Saviour. Understand this first: in the last days scoffers will come, going their own way after their own cravings, and saying, Where is this coming he promised? Ever since the fathers died, everything carries on just as it has from the beginning of creation. They deliberately ignore this: by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth stood out of the water and in the water. By this the world that then existed was flooded with water and perished. And by the same word the present heavens and earth are kept in store for fire, held for the day of judgement and the destruction of ungodly men. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slack about his promise, as some men count slackness. He is patient toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. The heavens will pass away with a great noise, the elements will melt with fervent heat, and the earth and the works in it will be burned up.

Grow in grace
Since everything is going to be dissolved like that, what sort of people ought you to be? Living holy and godly lives, looking for and hurrying toward the coming of the day of God, when the heavens, being on fire, will be dissolved and the elements will melt with fervent heat. But according to his promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home. So dear friends, since you are looking for these things, do your best to be found by him at peace, without spot and blameless. And take the patience of our Lord as salvation — as our dear brother Paul also wrote to you, with the wisdom given him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking of these things. Some of what he says is hard to get hold of, and people who are untaught and unsteady twist it, as they do the rest of the scriptures, to their own destruction. So then, dear friends, since you know these things beforehand, be on your guard so you aren't carried away by the error of the wicked and lose your own firm footing. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory, both now and forever. Amen.
Seeing then that everything will be broken up like this, what sort of people ought you to be in all holy way of life and godliness? Looking for and hurrying to the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being on fire will be broken up, and the basic things will melt with fervent heat. In them are some things hard to understand, that the unlearned and unsteady twist, the way they do the other scriptures too, to their own ruin. So, beloved, seeing you know these things before, watch out, in case you're carried away too with the error of the wicked and fall from your own steadiness. But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. So dear friends, since you are looking for these things, do your best to be found by him at peace, without spot and blameless.

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
And take the patience of our Lord as salvation — as our dear brother Paul also wrote to you, with the wisdom given him.
And count the long-suffering of our Lord as salvation. The way our beloved brother Paul too, according to the wisdom given him, has written to you.
And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking of these things. Some of what he says is hard to get hold of, and people who are untaught and unsteady twist it, as they do the rest of the scriptures, to their own destruction.
As in all his letters too, speaking in them of these things. In them are some things hard to understand, that the unlearned and unsteady twist, the way they do the other scriptures too, to their own ruin.
As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
So then, dear friends, since you know these things beforehand, be on your guard so you aren't carried away by the error of the wicked and lose your own firm footing.
