Add to your faith
Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you in full measure, through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and devotion to God, through knowing him who called us to glory and virtue. Through these he has given us very great and precious promises, so that by them you might share in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And besides this, giving all diligence, add virtue to your faith; and to virtue, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; to self-control, staying power; and to staying power, devotion to God; and to devotion to God, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. Because if you have these things, and they keep growing in you, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But anyone who hasn't got them is blind — short-sighted, and has forgotten he was cleaned up from his old sins. So all the more, brothers and sisters, make sure of your calling and God's choice of you. If you do these things, you won't fall. And you will be given a rich welcome into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The sure word of prophecy
So I will keep reminding you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the present truth. I think it right, as long as I am in this tent of a body, to stir you up by reminding you. I know I will be putting this tent aside before long, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. And I will do my best to see that after I am gone you will be able to call these things to mind at any time. We weren't following clever made-up stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majesty with our own eyes. He received honour and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him out of the magnificent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And we heard that voice come out of heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain. We also have a more sure word of prophecy, and you do well to pay attention to it like a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the day star rises in your hearts. Know this first: no prophecy of scripture is of any private interpretation. For prophecy did not come in old times by the will of man. Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
So I won't be careless to put you always in mind of these things, though you know them and are set firm in the present truth. Yes, I think it right, as long as I'm in this tent, to stir you up by putting you in mind. Knowing that shortly I have to put off this tent of mine, the way our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me. What's more, I'll try hard that you can be able after my going to have these things always in mind. Because we haven't followed cleverly made up fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his greatness.
