Examine yourselves
This is the third time I am coming to you. Every matter must be settled on the evidence of two or three witnesses. I gave a warning before, when I was with you the second time, and I give it again now while I am away, to those who sinned before and to everyone else: if I come again I won't spare anyone. Since you are looking for proof that Christ is speaking in me. He isn't weak toward you — he is powerful among you. Because he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by the power of God. And we are weak in him, but we will live with him by the power of God toward you. Test yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Prove yourselves. Don't you know that Jesus Christ is in you — unless you fail the test? But I trust you will find out that we haven't failed it. Now I pray to God that you do no wrong. Not so we can look approved, but so you can do what is right, even if we look as though we have failed. Because we can do nothing against the truth, only for the truth. We are glad when we are weak and you are strong. And this is what we pray for: that you be made complete. That is why I write these things while I am away — so that when I am there I won't have to be sharp with you, using the authority the Lord gave me for building up and not for pulling down.

I told you before and tell you before, as if I were there the second time, and being away now I write to the ones who've sinned before and to all the rest — that if I come again, I won't spare.
