The house started

In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites came out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Zif, the second month, he began building the house of the Lord. The house King Solomon built for the Lord was sixty cubits long, twenty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. The porch across the front of the temple was twenty cubits long, matching the width of the house, and it extended ten cubits out from the front. He made windows for the house with narrow frames. Against the walls of the house he built rooms all around, along both the temple and the inner room, making side chambers around it. The lowest level was five cubits wide, the middle level six cubits, and the third level seven cubits. He made ledges around the outside wall so the beams would not have to be fixed into the walls of the house. The house was built with stone prepared at the quarry, so while it was being built no hammer, axe or other iron tool was heard at the site. The entrance to the middle side chamber was on the right side of the house. Winding stairs led up to the middle level, and from the middle to the third. So Solomon built the house and finished it, roofing it with cedar beams and boards. He built the side chambers around the whole house, each five cubits high, and they were joined to the house with cedar timber.

And in the four hundred and eightieth year after the people of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's rule over Israel, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, he started to build the house of the Lord. And the house King Solomon built for the Lord was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. And the porch in front of the temple of the house was twenty cubits long, matching the width of the house. And ten cubits was its width in front of the house. And he made windows for the house with narrow frames. And against the wall of the house he built rooms round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the inner room. And he made side rooms round about. The lowest row was five cubits wide, and the middle six cubits wide, and the third seven cubits wide. Because he'd made ledges round the outside of the house, so the beams wouldn't be fastened in the walls of the house. And the house, when it was building, was built of stone got ready before it was brought there. So there wasn't any hammer or axe or any tool of iron heard in the house while it was building. The door for the middle side room was in the right side of the house. And they went up with winding stairs into the middle row, and out of the middle into the third. So he built the house and finished it, and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar. And then he built rooms against all the house, five cubits high. And they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD. And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits. And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house. And for the house he made windows of narrow lights. And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about: The nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house. And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building. The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third. So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar. And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

The inner room

So Solomon built the house and finished it. He lined the inside walls of the house with cedar boards, from the floor to the ceiling, covering the interior with wood. He covered the floor with fir planks. He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the house, from floor to walls, with cedar boards, making an inner room — the most holy place. The main part of the house, the temple in front of the inner room, was forty cubits long. The cedar inside the house was carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar, and no stone could be seen. He prepared the inner room inside the house to hold the ark of the covenant of the Lord. The inner room was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide and twenty cubits high. He overlaid it with pure gold, and covered the altar with cedar. Solomon overlaid the inside of the house with pure gold. He stretched gold chains across the front of the inner room and overlaid the room with gold. He overlaid the entire house with gold until the whole house was finished. He also overlaid with gold the whole altar beside the inner room. Inside the inner room he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high. One wing of a cherub was five cubits long and the other wing five cubits, making ten cubits from wingtip to wingtip. The second cherub also measured ten cubits. Both cherubim were the same size and shape. Each cherub was ten cubits high. He placed the cherubim inside the inner house with their wings spread out. The wing of one touched one wall, the wing of the other touched the opposite wall, and their other wings touched each other in the middle of the house. He overlaid the cherubim with gold. Around all the walls of the house, inside and out, he carved figures of cherubim, palm trees and open flowers. He overlaid the floors of the house with gold, both inside and outside the inner room. For the entrance to the inner room he made doors of olive wood, with the lintel and side posts forming a fifth part of the wall. The two doors were olive wood, carved with cherubim, palm trees and open flowers. He overlaid them with gold, spreading gold over the cherubim and palm trees. In the same way he made olive-wood posts for the entrance to the temple, forming a fourth part of the wall. The two doors were fir wood. Each door had two folding leaves. He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid the carvings evenly with gold. He built the inner court with three rows of dressed stone and one row of cedar beams. The foundation of the house of the Lord was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv. In the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the house was finished in every detail according to its plans. Solomon took seven years to build it.

So Solomon built the house and finished it. And he built the walls of the house inside with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house and the walls of the ceiling. And he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir. And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar. He built them for it inside, for the inner room, for the most holy place. And the house, that's the temple in front of it, was forty cubits long. And the cedar of the house inside was carved with gourds and open flowers. It was all cedar. No stone was seen. And he got the inner room ready in the house inside, to set the ark of the covenant of the Lord there. And the inner room in the front part was twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide and twenty cubits high. And he covered it with pure gold, and covered the altar with cedar. So Solomon covered the house inside with pure gold. And he made a partition by the chains of gold in front of the inner room, and he covered it with gold. And he covered the whole house with gold, till he'd finished all the house. He covered the whole altar that was by the inner room with gold too. And in the inner room he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high. And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub. From the tip of one wing to the tip of the other was ten cubits. And the other cherub was ten cubits. Both the cherubim were of one measure and one size. The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and the same for the other cherub. And he set the cherubim inside the inner house. And they stretched out the wings of the cherubim, so the wing of the one touched the one wall and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall. And their wings touched each other in the middle of the house. And he covered the cherubim with gold. And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, inside and outside. And he covered the floor of the house with gold, inside and outside. And for the entrance of the inner room he made doors of olive wood. The lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall. The two doors too were of olive wood. And he carved on them carvings of cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, and covered them with gold, and spread gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees. He made too for the door of the temple posts of olive wood, a fourth part of the wall. And the two doors were of fir wood. The two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding. And he carved on them cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, and covered them with gold fitted on the carved work. And he built the inner court with three rows of cut stone and a row of cedar beams. In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid, in the month Ziv. And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its parts and according to all the plan of it. So he was seven years building it.

So Solomon built the house, and finished it. And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the ceiling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir. And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place. And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long. And the cedar of the house within was carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen. And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD. And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar. So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold. And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold. And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high. And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits. And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size. The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub. And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house. And he overlaid the cherubims with gold. And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without. And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without. And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall. The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees. So also made he for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall. And the two doors were of fir tree: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding. And he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work. And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams. In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif: And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it.
