Husband and wife
Now about the things you wrote to me: it is good for a man not to touch a woman. Even so, because of immorality, let every man have his own wife, and every woman her own husband. Let the husband give his wife what is due to her, and the wife likewise to her husband. The wife doesn't have authority over her own body, but her husband does. And in the same way the husband doesn't have authority over his own body, but his wife does. Don't withhold from each other, except by agreement for a time, so you can give yourselves to fasting and prayer. Then come together again, so Satan won't tempt you through your lack of self-control. Now I say this as a concession, not as a command. I wish all men were as I am myself. But each man has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another. So I say to the unmarried and to widows: it is good for them to stay as I am. But if they can't control themselves, let them marry. Because it is better to marry than to burn. And to the married I give this command — not I, but the Lord: a wife mustn't leave her husband. But if she does leave, let her stay unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband mustn't divorce his wife. To the rest I say this — I, not the Lord: if any brother has a wife who doesn't believe, and she is willing to live with him, he mustn't divorce her. And if a woman has a husband who doesn't believe, and he is willing to live with her, she mustn't leave him. Because the unbelieving husband is made holy by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy by the husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy. But if the unbeliever leaves, let him leave. A brother or a sister isn't bound in such cases. God has called us to peace. Because how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?
Now about the things you wrote me: It's good for a man not to touch a woman. But to keep from sexual sin, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband give the wife what's due to her. And the wife the same to the husband. The wife hasn't got power over her own body, but the husband. And the same way too the husband hasn't got power over his own body, but the wife. Don't keep from each other, except with agreement for a time, so you can give yourselves to fasting and prayer. And come together again, so Satan doesn't test you for your lack of self-control. But I speak this by leave and not by order. Because I'd wish all men were like myself. But every man has his own gift of God, one this way and another that. So I say to the unmarried and widows, it's good for them if they stay as I am. But if they can't hold themselves in, let them marry. Because it's better to marry than to burn. And to the married I order, yet not I but the Lord: Don't let the wife leave her husband. But if she does leave, let her stay unmarried or be made one with her husband again. And don't let the husband put away his wife. But to the rest I speak, not the Lord: If any brother has a wife who doesn't believe, and she's pleased to live with him, let him not put her away. And the woman who has a husband who doesn't believe, and if he's pleased to live with her, let her not leave him. Because the husband who doesn't believe is made holy by the wife, and the wife who doesn't believe is made holy by the husband. Or else your children would be unclean. But now they're holy. But if the one who doesn't believe leaves, let him leave. A brother or a sister isn't under bondage in cases like that. But God has called us to peace. Because how do you know, wife, whether you'll save your husband? Or how do you know, man, whether you'll save your wife?
Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn. And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace. For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
Now about the things you wrote to me: it is good for a man not to touch a woman.

But I speak this by leave and not by order.
But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
I wish all men were as I am myself. But each man has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another.
Because I'd wish all men were like myself. But every man has his own gift of God, one this way and another that.
For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
So I say to the unmarried and to widows: it is good for them to stay as I am.
So I say to the unmarried and widows, it's good for them if they stay as I am.
I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.
But if they can't control themselves, let them marry. Because it is better to marry than to burn.
But if they can't hold themselves in, let them marry. Because it's better to marry than to burn.
But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
And to the married I give this command — not I, but the Lord: a wife mustn't leave her husband.
And to the married I order, yet not I but the Lord: Don't let the wife leave her husband.
And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:
But if she does leave, let her stay unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband mustn't divorce his wife.
But if she does leave, let her stay unmarried or be made one with her husband again. And don't let the husband put away his wife.
But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
To the rest I say this — I, not the Lord: if any brother has a wife who doesn't believe, and she is willing to live with him, he mustn't divorce her.
But to the rest I speak, not the Lord: If any brother has a wife who doesn't believe, and she's pleased to live with him, let him not put her away.

And the woman who has a husband who doesn't believe, and if he's pleased to live with her, let her not leave him.
And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
Because the unbelieving husband is made holy by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy by the husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy.
Because the husband who doesn't believe is made holy by the wife, and the wife who doesn't believe is made holy by the husband. Or else your children would be unclean. But now they're holy.
For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
But if the unbeliever leaves, let him leave. A brother or a sister isn't bound in such cases. God has called us to peace.
But if the one who doesn't believe leaves, let him leave. A brother or a sister isn't under bondage in cases like that. But God has called us to peace.
But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
Because how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?
Because how do you know, wife, whether you'll save your husband? Or how do you know, man, whether you'll save your wife?
For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
Stay as you were called
As God has distributed to each man, and as the Lord has called each one, let him live that way. And this is what I ordain in all the churches. Was any man called while circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Was any man called while uncircumcised? Let him not be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping the commandments of God is what counts. Let every man stay in the calling he was in when he was called. Were you called while a slave? Don't let it worry you. But if you can get your freedom, take it. Because the man who was called in the Lord while a slave is the Lord's freedman. And in the same way the man who was called while free is Christ's slave. You were bought with a price. Don't become slaves of men. Brothers, let every man stay with God in the situation he was called in.
But as God has handed to every man, as the Lord has called every one, so let him walk. And that's how I set out in all churches. Is any man called being circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the orders of God. Let every man stay in the same calling he was called in. Are you called being a servant? Don't let it worry you. But if you can be made free, use it rather. Because the one who's called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman. The same way too the one who's called being free is Christ's servant. You're bought with a price. Don't be the servants of men. Brothers, let every man stay with God in the state he's called in.
But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches. Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God. Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called. Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather. For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant. Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
As God has distributed to each man, and as the Lord has called each one, let him live that way. And this is what I ordain in all the churches.
But as God has handed to every man, as the Lord has called every one, so let him walk. And that's how I set out in all churches.

Was any man called while circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Was any man called while uncircumcised? Let him not be circumcised.
Is any man called being circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised.
Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.
Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping the commandments of God is what counts.
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the orders of God.
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

Let every man stay in the same calling he was called in.
Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
Were you called while a slave? Don't let it worry you. But if you can get your freedom, take it.
Are you called being a servant? Don't let it worry you. But if you can be made free, use it rather.
Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.

You were bought with a price. Don't become slaves of men.
You're bought with a price. Don't be the servants of men.
Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
Brothers, let every man stay with God in the situation he was called in.
Brothers, let every man stay with God in the state he's called in.
Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
The unmarried
Now about virgins: I have no command from the Lord, but I give my own judgement, as one who by the Lord's mercy is trustworthy. I reckon then that because of the present distress it is good for a man to stay as he is. Are you bound to a wife? Don't look to be released. Are you free of a wife? Don't look for one. But if you do marry, you haven't sinned. And if a virgin marries, she hasn't sinned. Even so, such people will have trouble in the flesh, and I am trying to spare you. But this I say, brothers: the time is short. From now on let those who have wives live as though they had none, and those who weep as though they didn't weep, and those who rejoice as though they didn't rejoice, and those who buy as though they owned nothing, and those who use this world as though they didn't make full use of it. Because the fashion of this world is passing away. But I want you free of worry. The unmarried man cares about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord. But the married man cares about the things of the world, how he may please his wife. And there is a difference between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, so she may be holy in body and in spirit. But the married woman cares about the things of the world, how she may please her husband. And I say this for your own good — not to put a snare on you, but for what is proper, so you can attend to the Lord without distraction. But if any man thinks he is behaving improperly toward his virgin, and she has passed the flower of her age, and need requires it, let him do as he wishes. He isn't sinning. Let them marry. But the man who stands firm in his heart, under no compulsion, and has power over his own will, and has settled it in his heart to keep his virgin, does well. So the man who gives her in marriage does well, and the man who doesn't does better. A wife is bound by the law as long as her husband lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry whoever she likes — only in the Lord. But in my judgement she is happier if she stays as she is. And I think I too have the Spirit of God.
Now about virgins I haven't got an order of the Lord. But I give my judgment, as one who's had mercy of the Lord to be faithful. So I think this is good because of the present hardship — I say, that it's good for a man to be like that. Are you bound to a wife? Don't look to be loosened. Are you loosened from a wife? Don't look for a wife. But if you marry, you haven't sinned. And if a virgin marries, she hasn't sinned. But ones like that will have trouble in the flesh. But I spare you. But this I say, brothers, the time is short. It stays that both the ones who've got wives should be as though they had none. And the ones who weep as though they didn't weep. And the ones who celebrate as though they didn't celebrate. And the ones who buy as though they didn't own anything. And the ones who use this world as not using it wrongly. Because the way this world looks is passing away. But I want you to be without care. The unmarried one cares for the things that belong to the Lord, how he can please the Lord. But the one who's married cares for the things of the world, how he can please his wife. There's a difference too between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares for the things of the Lord, so she can be holy both in body and in spirit. But the one who's married cares for the things of the world, how she can please her husband. And I speak this for your own profit, not so I can throw a snare on you, but for what's proper, and so you can wait on the Lord without being pulled away. But if any man thinks he behaves himself badly towards his virgin, if she passes the flower of her age and needs so, let him do what he wants. He doesn't sin. Let them marry. But the one who stands firm in his heart, having no need but has power over his own will, and has settled this in his heart that he'll keep his virgin, does well. So the one who gives her in marriage does well. But the one who doesn't give her in marriage does better. The wife is bound by the teaching as long as her husband lives. But if her husband is dead, she's at liberty to be married to who she wants, only in the Lord. But she's happier if she stays like that, in my judgment. And I think I've got the Spirit of God too.
Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful. I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be. Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife. But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you. But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none; And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not; And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away. But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife. There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband. And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction. But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry. Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well. So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better. The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. But I want you free of worry. The unmarried man cares about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord.
But I want you to be without care. The unmarried one cares for the things that belong to the Lord, how he can please the Lord.
But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
But the married man cares about the things of the world, how he may please his wife.
But the one who's married cares for the things of the world, how he can please his wife.
But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.
And there is a difference between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, so she may be holy in body and in spirit. But the married woman cares about the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

But she's happier if she stays like that, in my judgment. And I think I've got the Spirit of God too.
But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.
