Getting the materials ready
Then David said: This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel. David commanded them to gather the strangers in the land of Israel. And he set masons to cut stones to build the temple of God. David prepared iron in abundance for the nails in the gate doors and for the fittings, along with more bronze than could be weighed. He also prepared cedar timber in abundance, because the Zidonians and the people of Tyre brought David great quantities of cedar wood. David said: My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the Lord must be magnificent, famous and glorious throughout every land. So I'll make preparations for it now. David prepared materials in abundance before his death.

And David said: Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house to be built for the Lord has to be very great, famous and glorious through all countries. So I'll get things ready for it now. So David got plenty ready before his death.

David charges Solomon
Then he called for Solomon his son and commanded him to build a temple for the Lord God of Israel. David told Solomon: My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the name of the Lord my God. But the Lord spoke to me: You have shed much blood and fought great wars. You will not build a house for my name, because you've shed so much blood on the earth before me. A son will be born to you who will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies around him. His name will be Solomon, and in his days I will give Israel peace and quiet. He will build a house for my name. He will be my son, and I will be his father. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever. Now, my son, may the Lord be with you. May you prosper and build the house of the Lord your God, just as he has said about you. May the Lord give you wisdom and understanding when he puts you in charge of Israel, so you will keep the law of the Lord your God. Then you'll prosper if you're careful to obey the rules and judgments the Lord commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid or discouraged. In my trouble I have prepared for the house of the Lord a hundred thousand talents of gold, a thousand thousand talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond weighing because there is so much of it. I have also prepared timber and stone, and you can add to them. What's more, there are plenty of workmen with you — stonecutters and workers of stone and timber, and all kinds of skilful men for every kind of work. The gold, silver, bronze and iron are beyond counting. Get up and begin the work, and may the Lord be with you.

Then you'll do well, if you watch and do the rules and judgments that the Lord ordered Moses about Israel. Be strong and steady. Don't be frightened and don't fall apart. Now look — in my trouble I've got ready for the house of the Lord a hundred thousand talents of gold and a thousand thousand talents of silver, and bronze and iron past weighing, because there's plenty of it. And I've got ready timber and stone too. And you can add to it. He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee. Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all manner of cunning men for every manner of work. Of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and be doing, and the LORD be with thee.

The leaders charged
David commanded all the leaders of Israel too to help Solomon his son: Isn't the Lord your God with you? Hasn't he given you rest on every side? He has handed the people of the land over to me, and the land is subdued before the Lord and before his people. Now set your heart and soul to seek the Lord your God. Get up and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so the ark of the Lord's covenant and God's holy vessels can be brought into the house built for the Lord's name.
David ordered all the leaders of Israel too to help Solomon his son: Isn't the Lord your God with you? And hasn't he given you rest on every side? Because he's handed over the people of the land into my hand, and the land is brought under in front of the Lord and in front of his people. So set your heart and your soul now to look for the Lord your God. Get up and build the holy place of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God into the house that's to be built to the name of the Lord.
David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying, Is not the LORD your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the LORD, and before his people. Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.
